Could be TCC lock-up switch faulty. Trany pump might be going out. New torque converter? If you have put a new converter on an old unrebuit trany the old cruddy fluid will contaminate the new converter and could cause pump failure. This can happen vise- versa too. New trany with an old converter will wreck the new trany with left over old trany fluid. Check to see if there any codes being set. A local parts store can check. Call you local dealer to see if it is a known issue or recall.

What makes the fuel pump not kick on on a 92 Oldsmobile Cutlass

There is a red wire close to the battery in the front. It's not connected to anything. Apply positive voltage and that will run your pump for testing purposes.

'95 cutlass ciera, Mating the trans and engine?

Hi
Fit the torque convertor to the gearbox first, make sure it locates fully with the pump drive on the g/box(the round section that's got two flat sections) in the centre of the bellhousing. Make sure the convertor does not slip out when mating engine and g/box, when mated there should not be any gap between engine and g/box(transmision) without any bolts tightened, secure transmision to engine then only replace the bolts that holds the torque convertor to the flexplate.

Phillip

Engine locks up and stalls when coming to a stop. To clear it up I have to put the transmission in reverse and ref the engine while holding the brakes. 1994 olds cutlass ciera.

this sounds like the transmission torque converter clutch is not releasing, it causes this exact symptom. Have a local trans shop test drive it, in these tough times they will do that for free hoping to get the repair job.

Transmission problem on 95 cutlass ciera

Overdrive has two important factors involving when and if it turns on besides being in the proper gear shift position. One is tthe car has to FIRST reach operating temps before it will engage the TCC ( torque converter clutch ). That could involve a faulty thermostat, or short distance drives, Second important factor WILL DISENGAGE WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. A brake switch could be misadjusted , and without you stepping on the brake, the computer thinks you are and wont engage TCC. Hope this helps.
