2001 dodge ram 2500. A/C wont turn on. Blower works. but the compressor is not kicking in. Volt meter says no power going to it. is there a safety switch that turns off the power to it when it is low on freon so nothing gets messed up?

Make sure you are even getting power through your a.c. switch on the console. That sends power to the main relay and through the high pressure and Low pressure switch in series and then to your compressor clutch. Trace power through all of these and you will know which component is faulty.
When you say everything is fine, did you check the blower motor for power and ground with a meter ? The blower motor gets power from the relay, and the resistor and control switch provides the ground circuit.
I am having the same issue. I can wiggle my keys in the ignition when it is not started and get the blower to come on. I am assuming it is ignition relay.
as you said relay is good,try to check 4 connection of relay,pullout relay,check if there a 12 volts supply,, a 12 volt control by ignition sw.,connection to blower motor, the last connection is to the switch mostly connected to ground.
