your car does not have the function on the remote for opening the trunk only i think,
if the trunk stays locked with the central locks, than you should turn the key in the trunk lock for different position,
if now straight, turn to flat,if now horizontal, turn to 6 oclokck position,
Your car is 13 years old. The lens on your disc reader is also 13 years old . They get extremely dirty. Especially if the changer is in the trunk. I'd try using a disc lens cleaner to see if that fixes the issue. Could be that its just worn out. Hard to say . Have you taken it to a stereo shop ? I'd take it to one of those before you take it to the dealer. The dealer will waaaaaaay over charge you for diagnostics on a cd changer where as a local stereo shop would Probly fix it for ya for next to nothing.
You might have something draining it, as an example...glove box light, under the hood light, trunk light may be staying on.
Any shop can verify a draw with a meter or amp meter.
My wife's 2001 Jetta TDI had the same problem. First we changed the battery. (It was just about due anyway) No change. We then traced the power drain to the in-trunk mounted CD changer. This was an aftermarket CD changer but we went to the same source that the VW dealership uses. Of course one blames the other. The CD changer was even replaced with no change. If we are not using the car for long trips we unplug the CD changer and no more dead battery! Neither the VW dealer nor the AV installer could give us a good working solution to this problem.
Call VW parts department and they can get you a manual give them your vin # and they can tell you what kind of disc player you had in it. it may take a few days
do you have a release in your trunk? Most cars do, should be in yout trunk on the side of gas lid, Please let me help you, its free and all I want is a fixya..lol
What happens when you use the key? Difficult to turn key, or difficult to insert? Spray wd40 (available just about anywhere) into the lock, try the key again, spray again. If you have a trunk release pull the release as far as you can, holding it while a helper uses a pair of vise grips to lock on the cable, and attempt to pull it further, which may be just enough to release the 'catch" and allow the trunk to open. Good Luck! countrycurt0
