My jeep dies going down the road regardless of speed, but only does it occasionally - summer or winter. I can be driving it down the road and it dies but immediately kicks in and starts up again. I'm thinking it's electrical because once the gas gauge dropped to empty, the fuel light came on, and then 10 seconds later it died. It always starts back up, though.
Replace the crank angle sensor and this should cure your problem

the crank shft sensor is the problem. i had the same problem with a 1998 with the 4.0. it is an easy fix about 1/2 hour. the sensor is mounted to the flywheel cover at about the 10 or 11 oclock position.replace asap because it will just get worse until it just wont start. part cost apox $75-$100

sounds like a bad ignitiion switch or loose main electrical connection, possibly under the power distrrebution center.
Have the ignition switch checked...could be internally making/breaking contact. In re-starting, you are restoring contact. This is one of a few items to check.
