The thermostat is probably not opening or the water pump is not turning. Don't keep driving it like that, you will cook the engine.

SOURCE: a8 4.2 v8 engine overheating

run it and let it get hot (not to the point of overheating just let it warm up to normal or slightly above normal).  put your hand near the upper radiator hose, if you feel not heat, touch it, be careful as it may be hot.  if it is not hot at all but the engine is warmed up it is the thermostat, the thermostat is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the motor, usually a 2bolt metal fitting, if this is the case just replace the thermostat.

SOURCE: Temp gauge shows hot even if engine has been off overnight?

Locate the temperature sending unit and pull the wire off of it. Turn the key to the on position (do not start) then have someone touch that wire to a ground source and the temp gauge should go from one extreme to another (cold to hot). If the gauge does that, you have a bad sending unit...if it does not move, you have a bad gauge or problem with the wiring to the gauge.

All the temp sending unit does is act like a variable resistor depending on the coolant temp...if it is bad, it will give you a false reading.

Bravada temp gauge fluctuates and heater runs cold and hot?

Why is temp gauge fluctuating while driving car is not hot.

Check the coolant level. Sometimes when the coolant level is low, it will cause gauge fluctuations like you suggest, since air is getting into the cooling system. When air is in the system, it causes the thermostat to open and close frequently resulting is wild temp gauge swings.

YOU NEED BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK COOLANT LEVEL IN RADIATOR.ADD MORE DEXCOOL UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IS CLOSE TO RADIATOR SPOUT.CRANK ENGINE LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE.IF TEMPERATURE GAUGE START RISING TO HOT ZONE.TURN OFF ENGINE.LET COOL DOWN.USE LARGE RAG SLOWLY OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME UNTIL ALL PRESSURE RELIEVED.REMOVE RADIATOR CAP.ADD MORE COOLANT.CRANK CAR AGAIN LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR GET HOT.KEEP EYE ON TEMP.GAUGE ALSO.WHEN TEMP.GAUGE STOP CLIMBING.YOUR COOLANT SYSTEM BLED.WHEN DONE LET CAR SET A WHILE CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.ALSO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AGAIN.AND BESURE ADD COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG TO THE COLD MARK.DONT OVER FILL THE COOLANT RESERVOIR JUG.WORK SAFELY DONT GET SCALDED.

My 2004 Sebring heater only blows warm air when the car is moving. If I stop at a traffic light or put it in park it blows cold air. Any ideas?

1st check the coolant level. If it's low, what you describe will happen. If level is ok, let me know, and include info on engine temp gauge--how long to warm up, is gauge at warm up low temp range, normal, or hot?

Why my heater in 2000 plymouth breeze only gives a little heat? Could it be a hose ? I know it's not the thermostat, the blowers ar working. I am wonding if theres some hoses that could be leaking?I don't...

it could be the cold air blend door or the thermostat is the engine temp up to the middle of the gauge or close to it if so then thermostat is ok if not then go ahead and replace it.

98 cherokee had gunky cooling system, got it flushed and temp gauge was reading low afterwards. diagnostic computer said the cooling system circuit had high input so i replaced one of the temp sensors. now...

STOP DRIVING.

Go to a shop and ask for a cooling system pressure test.

After they pump up the coolant system, they will point out is there any INTERNAL or EXTERNAL leak(s).

Internal leak is the first sign of blowing head gasket. (NOT GOOD)

External leak can just a small hose.

Start monitor cooling loss.

Start monitor the oil level

Change the thermostat and gasket.

The temp sensor is cheap. Change it at the same time.

Use 60/40 coolant mix is you has high odometer reading like 160,000+ miles

DO NOT ALLOW the coolant and oil cross mix.

As soon as it mix,you are ready for a majot head gasket repair.

Good luck.
