Engine shut down while driving andwill not start. spark plugs have power, fuel is getting to the release valve in the backof the engine, but isn't getting to cylinders.

That can be the symptom of a bad Ignition Control Module, or also a bad crank position sensor. The ICM can be taken off and tested for free at any parts store. The crank sensor circuit can be tested on the car with a multi-meter. Also small motors (like a fuel pump motor) that are starting to fail can sometimes work until they get hot and then stop working until they cool down again.
Next time the car shuts down and won't restart, check for spark on a spark plug wire with the engine cranking over. If you have no spark, suspect the ignition control module or the crank position sensor. If you still have spark, but won't start, check if the fuel pump is putting gas up to the engine.
hello, it sounds like you may not have injector pulse. You can check for voltage with a volt meter & check pulse with noid lights. Check the ecm Fuses, i think the ecm b fuse powers the injectors. make sure you are getting spark at the plugs. I hope this helps.
sounds like a fuel problem to me. check on the fuel rack for a valve that looks exactly like a tire valve, turn your ignition key to 'on' position, then take a nail and push in on the tire looking valve{caution!!!} wear protective glasses as the fuel will shoot up into your eyes if fuels going to fuel rack!! if no fuel comes out, then suspect 1st bad fuel filter. then bad fuel pump,if not that, then bad fuel pressure regulator. if you have problem locating the fuel valve release, follow the fuel rail on top of the motor until you locate the pressure release valve[that's what you're looking for. thank you for choosing fixya.com
I had a similar issue with my '86....driving home, made a left turn, and engine shut down. Coasted to a stop, and had a look under the hood. Cranked over fine, had gas, spark, but no go! After a tow home, and more in-depth investigating, turned out that the timing belt had broken! The older engine has no interference between valves and pistons, so installing a new belt got 'er going again for about $40. You can look down though the oil fill port or loosen the upper screws on the belt cover to confirm that the valves are/are not moving when the engine cranks.

I'll be honest, it sounds like the transmitter in the key isnt reading. A key remake without the factory transmitter will start the car, but only keep it running for a few seconds before cutting power to the motor. your electronics will still run....This may be too obvious, but honestly, thats what it sounds like.
your going to start with the crank sensor and go from there, when car dies you are going to have to check to see if your losing spark or fuel.remove a plug wire and place it near a good metal ground have someone spin engine see if it still has spark when it doesnt start, next is fuel top of engine find valve, almost looks like a tire valve, remove cap use a pen to push valve, hold and trun engine gas should spray, start there. hope this is helpful.
