Remove the wheel, remove the dust cover from center of hub, bend and remove cotter pin...using the proper socket, break loose the hub nut (this will be on tight and may require using a properly placed prybar to keep the rotor from spinning). There are 4 or 5 bolts on the backside of the spindle, remove them, the brake caliper, rotor and the speed sensor. The hub should come out with a little force. Generally a rubber mallet used at an angle driving the hub towards you works well.

Whining noise from passenger front wheel had wheel bearing replaced could it be gearbox

Wierd Wheel Noises:

New bearing is actually good? Take wheel off of the ground, vehicle in neutral and rotate the wheel by hand and see that there are no problems with the bearing, CV Axle, or the brakes. And put some pressure on the bearing as much as you can to make sure it is not binding itself.

More than one bearing has been damaged during installation. I now own a 10 ton press and keep it in my basement for the next time I have to replace my bearings. Thank goodness I always buy in pairs.

Here's to hoping you just identified your problem.

If not, then: Have someone turn the wheel in both directions while watching the CV Axle at both ends, to make sure it isn't the problem.

One more issue: Swap your tires front to rear, and rear to front, and drive to see if your noise changed locations, indicating a tire or wheel problem.

If everything you just checked is working properly, then you know what's next.

Good luck !

With an audi a4 to replace the front wheel bearing do i need a whole hub or just the bearing

You will need just the bearing, I'm sure this is just 1 unit but is 2 bearings housed in 1 casing, if that makes sense,

03 transit front wheel bearing

That doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a 37 mm wrench, the nut should be finger tight, if not a pair of channelock pliers will do. The nut just snugs up the bearing, too tight and it will cook. Pull the lock pin, spin off the nut, bump the rotor with a rubber hammer and the bearing should pop out in your hand, you have to replace the seal when you pull the rotor off. Sometimes the race on the inside gets stuck, sometimes it welds itself to the spindle, depends on how hot you got it, you should be able to tap it off with a hammer and a drive pin from the rear. If you can't get it to move, take a dremel to it and cut the thing in half. I hope this is what you are asking.

You're low on oil - the Audi dipstick isn't the most accurate thing out there. Add a quart and see what happens.

First check the lug nuts. If they are tight it might be a wheel bearing.
