I believe your starter is shorting this happened to me and we melted jumper cables then the battery went dead real fast. We replaced the starter and all well

James is correct, but also check all your fuses and wiring from the battery. Under the battery you have ground wires that at times rust and don't complete the circuit. Ignition switches are a common problem that will prevent a vehicle to start. Long process but not difficult to repair. Have to remove steering wheel, air bag, column covers and turn signal/wiper switches. Will need a puller to remove steering wheel, be careful when you loosen the screw that holds the housing where the ignition switch is located. Best to buy a new one as old one is a one time use bolt.
Disconnect the battery prior to performing this work.
