The camshaft position sensor is mounted to the top of the timing case cover. The bottom of the sensor is positioned above the camshaft sprocket. The distance between the bottom of the sensor and the camshaft sprocket is critical to the operation of the system. Hope this helped and best wishes.
Ok here we go i have a 1999 chrysler 300m it has 150 thousand miles on it as i drive at a distance my car will loose power and then i need to pull to the side of the road and restart it.. i am scared to drive it at any long distance . i have researched the internet and found alot of people pointing to a cam and crank sensor . i need to know if this could be it before i pay to repair these items..my name is terry email is [email protected] please help

The CMP (camshaft position sensor) is located where the distributor would normally be.

It's held down by one bolt right above the timing chain cover. It's next to the head that's facing toward the front of the car.

At the right rear of the engine under the intake manifold and to the left of the oil filter. You will probably need to go under the car to spot it, it's the sensor with a three-wire connector arranged vertically. But you can take it out from above. It's held in with a single bolt with an eight MM head located just above the sensor. Un-clip and remove the electrical connector. Unscrew the bolt with a socket wrench & extension bar. Wiggle and pull the sensor out.

when you are looking at the engine pull off the plastic cover on top then the front cover that covers you timing belt there is a wire harness tha goes right to it in the left upper coner two ten mil bolts and it comes off careful not to drop bolts down in belt that could be bad. it is that easy
