Question about Opel Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Any opel astra H techies here? I have a problem with the ESP light paired with service indicator coming on the moment I start the car. I had the water pump and belt tensioner replaced and redone the timing. Since then the ESP and Service light stays illuminated. Did the pedal test and it threw a ECN 034008 code which indicates a camshaft sensor fault. I disconnected the sensor and put just the ignition on, and its the same code. Thus making me think the camshaft sensor isnt picking up. Theres no problems starting and idling and no check engine light. I inspected the connection points on the camshaft sensor as well as the physical unit. No obvious wear or disruptions. Any ideas what else I can try? Is there a fuse or relay that can be responsible for this miscommunication to the camshaft sensor. Its a 2006 opel astra H Z18XE.

The service light comes on when a service is due and turned off by the service mechanic after the service , could that be the fault?.

The camshaft position sensor is located on the engine near the timing belt cover and under the upper radiator hose.

It NEVER was the camshaft sensor! Unless, you've removed the engine lately, which I doubt.
RUN to Advance Auto Parts and buy a can of "SeaFoam" and add to your gas tank per instructions...drive at least 100 miles and the problem should go away...IF it doesn't you'll have to replace the O2 sensors in the exhaust system...Any good mechanic should be able to do this for much less $$ than the dealership DO NOT go to the dealer for repairs!
Good Luck

the computer may need to be reflashed. if it is running then it is not a bad sensor. either of those being bad would cause it not to run.

Sounds like water pump has given out. If you can slacken the belt that drives it and then run engine again briefly. If the noise is gone when you have done this it will be water pump for sure.

Guessing just wastes money . have the fault codes read first and find exactly which sensor/s are causing you a problem
not all faults energize the engine light and remember the engine light also refers to problems in the transmission

Opel Astra 1.6 16v wont start but has power.

The engine light has been an indication you may have a "battery charging problem"...This could be a bad battery, bad alternator, or just dirty battery post connections (or loose) Try the cleaning and tightening of the posts first...(least costly) dirty posts will allow the lights etc to work, but do not allow the full current needed to turn the starter...Hope this helps.
