no coolant problem will cause a heat problem sounds like you have a low freon charge in the ac system if empty the system hold 1.5 pounds of freon

The 2000 Saturn SL came from the factory with Dex-Cool antifreeze (The Pink stuff) I don't know what your engine has in it now...it may have been changed.

If your car is "runnin thru antifreeze", the thing you should be concerned the most with is WHERE is the antifreeze going? If your engine and cooling system is working properly, you should not have to add any antifreeze at all. Adding antifreeze and not finding out and repairing the reason it was low, is a good way to totally destroy an engine.

That is your low coolant level light. Add antifreeze/water mixture to the overflow resevoir

There is a sensor in the coolant overflow tank and when the antifreeze gets below that line the warning light comes on. When the coolant level is falling below that line it means the coolant is going somewhere and not staying in the system. Leaking radiator, water pump, hoses, heater core, bad gasket all come to mind. Generally you will see a green or orange stain on the ground where the car is most often parked, that will lead you to where the leak is. But it may only leak after it is warmed up and running so you would have to examine under the hood to find a stain there.

the light means that your coolant level is low. after the car has sat for long enough to cool down remove the radiator cap and ad 50/50 mixture antifreeze till full. start car and ad more as required. check for visible leaks.

CHECK ELEC FAN SWITCH WORKING, OR REPLACE THEMOSTAT, AS COULD BE STICKING

Inside the coolant reserve tank there is a sensor for coolant level.


Over time,this sensor can get stick.


Inspect the coolant reserve tank for crack or leak.

Locate the coolant level switch/sensor and soak it in clean warm water.

Make sure it's free to move up and down the float path.

Top off the coolant tank with coolant only.

you could simply flush the coolant system.
