You checked your water in the reserve tank and there is water in it? well awesome man good to know!! ha ha there is water in mine too,

no but seriously i think you mean oil right?
if you have oil in your antifreeze reserve tank it usually means you have a blown head gasket, and that you will need to replace,
take it to a mechanics shop you trust as it will be not a cheap fix because they will need to take off the head to get to it.

SOURCE: i have a 2001 chevy Malibu. Have problems with

Due to the complexity of the newer cars on the raod today!! what you are experiencing is Normal!!! since the coolant systems on the newer cars run at such a higher pressure and a high Rpm the reserve tank which has it's on drain hose for excessive overflow from the radiator allows the extra high pressure release from the radiator to back flow to the reserve tank and then out the reserve tank overflow hose on to the raod

SOURCE: The water reserve tank has oil in it. what do I

Check the oil for color. If it's red or pinkish that means the transmission cooler lines in your radiator have rusted out. If the rad is good you can repair this with a separate trans oil cooler. If the oil is not pink then you need to go to a repair shop and have the engine checked for bad head gaskets. That's the only other way for oil to get in your water. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: transmission fluid in radiator reserve tank

It could be and inspect your transmission fluid and have it serviced if it is the transmission fluid and also your engine oil. Engine coolant is corrosive to the bearings in your transmission and engine and can cause you to loose which ever you have cross contamination with.
If it's transmission fluid, then you'll loose your transmission is not corrected and if it's engine oil. Then your going to loose the engine shortly if not corrected.
Sorry for the bad news and thank you for using fixya.

Please explain reserve cooling system 2005 Ford escape 2.3 engine.

When water gets heated, pressure builds up in the radiator and water vapor is sent to the reserve tank.
And vapor dilutes into the water in the reserve tank.
When the engine cools down, in the radiator, vacuum builds up. To fill the vacuum water is pull from the reserve tank.
If vacuum leaks from radiator, gasket, etc., reserved tank won't able to function

Antifreeze leaking from engine on 2001 ford focus

It sounds like you have a blown head gasket, check your engine oil, take off your oil cap and if it is frothy around the cap and inside the head, you have a blown head gasket.

Overheating coolant boiling out into reserve tank

you have a blown head gasket.. doesn't have to have coolant in the oil for a blown head gasket... if hoses are rock hard when running then you have exhaust leaking into the coolant via a blown head gasket...

My reserve coolant is boiling but its stay full ...why???

Might be mostly water. Check the gravity of the coolant, one of those little floaty ball things at walmart, $2, If it is not up to par with 50/50 coolant, fill it up or drain some of the water out. It is building up too much pressure and releasing the boiling stuff into the reserve tank, the cap could be bad, not tight, could be a blown head gasket, check this stuff out. Look for oil in the top of the radiator, steam out the exhaust, usually loses water though. Water boils at 220 and coolant 260 in a closed system, keep an eye on the temp gauge, do not let it over heat. It will be shot if it does. Hope this helps.

I have a 2000 Cadillac Deville.....The car continues to overheat. After I add water or coolant to the reserve tank, in less than15 minutes it runs hot again. What I came to find out is that coolant and...

several reasons
blown head gasket/cracked head ---have a compression test done
radiator cores blocked ---have a flow test done or replace the radiator
fan not operational --if viscous fan hub , replace it
if electric fans , check fan operation , check fan relay , 2 fuses , coolant sensor unit

Coolant coming out of reserve tank

In most cases like this, especially if the car is overheting in the meantime and you have white puffy smoke coming out of the tail pipe, it's a sure sign of a bad head gasket or worse...A cracked head.

I say this only if you notice that the reserve tank keeps filling up and building pressure. What's happening, is there is actual engine blow-by pumping its gasses into the cooling system. The result is what you might see there. The reserve tank fills up and the coolant (what's left of it) seeps and gets sucked into the combustion chamber and gets burned with the fuel. (Well, "steamed" would be a better term there....)

Again, IF that is the case, also look at your oil dipstick and the top of the oil cap. Do the stick and / or the underside of the cap look milky? That's another sign of your vehicle in need of some head work.

Considering the cost and labor involved, I sincerely hope that isn't the case! But just to be sure, those are some things you can check for.

Good luck and I hope this helps! :)
