I just bought a 1998 TOYOTA COROLLA 5 SPEED. The ex owner turned it on, I brought it to my house Now I want to start it,I press the cluch and it does not start. Am I Missing something?
If it is equipped with a chipped key, make sure you're using the right key - with the chip. Make sure you are depressing the clutch right down to the floor with the shifter in neutral (sometimes mats can be a problem with this). On the console there should be a neutral safety switch by-bass access (check manual) - try it by inserting a small screw driver and attempting to start (in neutral & brakes) If above two fail with no signs of power to the engine, give the previous owner a call.
If it is totally dead then it could be in your park neutral safety switch, check underneath where the clutch is housed and push in with your hand and see if it engages
