Stalling and running rough - Hyundai Elantra - 2001-05

The Hyundai Elantra 2001 - 2005, 2.0 L engine is noted for this problem. It will lack power on acceleration and run rough and stall while driving. The engine light will come on for misfire codes. This problem is caused by a vaccum leak at the intake manifold gasket. The gasket is broken and needs to be replaced.
To replace the intake gasket with a new one, remove the 12m nuts holding the intake to the cylinder head. Then pry back( note: you do not have to completely remove the intake manifold here) the intake manifold to gain excess to remove the old gasket. Remove any excess gasket and clean with brake cleans the surface area of the intake. Install the new intake gasket on to the head and carefully install intake on to cylinder head studs. Tighten up nuts gradually and evenly to 15-20 ft.lbs.

Oxygenator causing random missing

ok so throwing parts at it might fix it but more than likely you have an issue with coolant seeping into the intake from the upper intake manifold (its plastic) where the EGR tube connects to the upper manifold. There is a new updated intake for those engines, which has a bigger diameter where the tube connects, (the tube burns thru the plastic).
check which cylinder is misfiring (P0301 indicates cyl. 1 and P0302 cyl. 2 and so on) and the pull the plug where the misfire indicates and see what it looks like. Check coolant levels to verify no coolant is internally leaking in to the engine. If this is the problem you need to have it repaired immediately or risk hydro-locking the engine. If this is the case you will need to pull all the plugs and replace them, but before installing the new plugs, be sure to crank the engine over about 3 times to expel all the liquid from the cylinders.

Replace intake manifold now check engine light on

You don't want to use a car with a flashing check light

On a Ford, that is a Class A Cylinder Misfire

The problem was put in there, I assume, from work
that wasn't checked before returning your car

Could have vacuum leaks with the new manifold

Should have smoke tested after the install, road tested,
looked at all data,mode #06 misfire counts,etc

My 98 ford windstar is displaying trouble codes p1537/p1538, along with a misfire on cylinder 1 & 2 (p0301/p0302). what are some problems that can cause this problem?

Codes p1537 and p 1538 are codes for a faulty IMRC valve. They are located on the lower intake manifold.

Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC), Vacuum Control
  1. Remove E-clip retaining vacuum control linkage to lever/shaft assembly.
  1. Remove adjustment screw from the vacuum control (9S514) and bracket.
  1. Remove two bolts retaining vacuum control and bracket to IMRC housing assembly.
  1. Disconnect linkage from the lever/shaft assembly and remove vacuum control .
  1. To install vacuum control and bracket assembly, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten retaining bolts to 8-11 Nm (71-97 lb-in). Adjust vacuum control as described.

As for the misfire codes, Check out the upper and lower intake gaskets. Since you have to take the upper intake off for the imrc valves its just a few more bolts to remove the lower intake. The intake gaskets are rubber seals. When the engine is cold the seals shrink and causes a misfire. when the engine warms up the seals expand and the misfire goes away.

I installed an aftermarket intake. The car acts as if it was misfiring and "service engine soon" light went on.

Sounds like your MAF sensor or type of Intake sensor might be unplugged. disconnect the battery, check all wire connection, tighten all the new clamps. reconnect battery and start it. the computer running the engine needs to relearn all the sensors and adjust for the extra coming in from your intake. 2-3 days of NORMAL driving and then you should be good to go. the factory intake makes people literally sell the car and hated by most repair shops.

Engine missing, particularly in idle, or dies when turning

The intake gaskets leaking would cause the engine to have a misfire. Get a can of Brake Clean and spray in around the intake manifold on the top of the engine while the engine is running. The engine idle will go up or down if there is a leak. Also try swapping the spark plug with another spark plug to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder. If it moves then you have a bad spark plug. I hope this helps.
