Engine overheating

old post,
vast reasons, first the macro list (pure physics)
A: engine producing too much heat.
B: cooling system failure.
C: both.!
what car, what year, what model car. gee, just a hint?
Micro:
engine timing way off, causing vast heat production.
engine running on lean side, then flogged hard.
Cat clogged.
gross misfire.
rad internal tubes, clogged, use and IR to check (ask)
bad thermostat #1 all time reason,
on 1.8L clogged, stat hosing return line (small hose and pipe)
low coolant, no, the side tank dont tell you this.
a/c consensor packed blocking air to main engine RAD.
bad water pump impeller some get eaten up by electrolysis.
loose fan belt.
fan clutch slips even hot.
if newer suz, (unsaid) electr fan death. for blow fuse to same, etc.
take car to any ASE shop, and i promise, easy discovery.

1997 landrover discovery

First let me admit that I haven't worked on a LandRover in years, so I highly recommend that you contact someone that has recent experience.

That being said; it sounds like a throw out bearing failure to me. Although it could be a pressre plate issue, it really doesn't matter since I always recommend that the pressure plate, throw out bearing and clutch plate be replaced at the same time, since a failure of one is an indication the others life span is coming to the end.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but my LandRover experience was mainly in the 80s and early 90s

Running hot replaced temostat

When hot, check to see if the fan clutch is engaged fully, if the fan is spinning slower than the engine, it may be bad and needs replacement.

My Landrover Discovery 300tdi 1995, loses power drastically to almost stopping point. failing to climb steep hills and check engine comes on, only going off when I stop accelerating. This has been gradual...

replace ignition coil, spark plugs, also double chek your coolant temperature must be normal. overheating causes car slows down and engine cant handle excessive high temperature or may damage it.

I have bought a 99 land rover discovery and it is overheating

From practical experiences of heavy trucks, this problem is created by poor coolant flow thro' the Radiator Core. Flush cleaning the Rad. or decontaminating the exterior air flowways will not cure the problem. My recommendation is a Recore or after market replacement.

97 landrover discovery v-8

Plenty off coolant in reservoir? Does the car overheat during normal driving or only on trips?
Does the car run rough and do you have white smoke coming from tail pipe?
If not then it could be 2 possible items
First check the viscous fan clutch is no frozen, this is the unit in the middle of the plastic fan, it should spin freely with a slight bit of tension. Or the radiator more and likely is clogged, I would suggest you remove the radiator (or get your mechanic too) and get it rodded-out.
Hope this helps, and don't drive the car hot, you could cause major engine damage on this vehicle if your not careful.
