How to manually change the Blend door actuator setting on a 99 Toyota Solara to hot or cold?
I went to Pep Boys to have my A/C checked because it wasn't blowing cold enough and my temp control knob wouldn't change the temp. They checked my car and everything else is in order (freon, air compressor good, etc.)
Then one of the mechanics says he changed a setting with my blend door actuator by forcing it to blow only cold air and he says maybe my electrical system is going out.
My A/C worked fine after that, but now it's winter and I still don't have the cash to fix this yet. Can I do a temporary fix myself so at least I can get some heat? The guy who did this, kinda did it off the books and he's not there anymore.
Only way to tell if A/C Evaporator Core Orifice tube is plugged is by looking at A/C gauge readings , An if it is plugged you more then likely need a new compressor , they become plugged with metal particles from worn out compressor. Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

Bypass the rear heater core take both hoses off the core and go to hardware store ask for apex tubing an conect hoses to it n put 2 clamps on each side u will have to guess the size or cut a piece of it n take it with u to get the size tubing u need that will kill all heet to back not the front
Sounds like possibly the blend door is broken inside the heater box, I would double check and make sure the coolant level is full, if it is I would take the actuator off on the blend door and try and move it by hand and see if it changes
That is a hard one to call without seeing it in person. It could be a clog in the heater core (have you ever had it flushed?), a bad selector switch, or a bad blend actuator. I think the F150 of that year uses an electronic blend actuator similar to the one used in the Explorer (some of them are vacuum while some are electric), you'll have to look at the box to see why type it uses or if you can pull the panel off, check the back of the hot/cold switch. See if it has vacuum lines or an electrical connector. I know the Explorer has a fix kit because the electrical actuator will strip the gears and not change the door position easily or at all.
I assume this truck has daul zone heating and a/c, the air blows but is not hot? if this is the case then you may have dissconnected the blend door actuator or it just went bad. this is common that the actuator goes bad, there are two seperate actuators that control the hot/cold door in the heater box this way the passenger and driver can set there on temp. the actuator for the drivers side is locted on the drivers side under the dash on heater box, the blower is on the passenger side , you can check connections but i do not think it is that but rather the actuator.
MORE PROBABLY YOU BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR WENT BAD I HAVE THE SAMEPROBLEM ON MY MALIBU 2011 JUST WENT BAD LAST WEEK BUT I ONLY GET COLD AIR AND STILL HAVENT CHANGE IT DID U FIX YOUR ?????WHAT WAS THE FIX
Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6235876-no_heat_fan_blowing_cold_air . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.
Your blend door actuator is on front of the heater box by the core. Check to see if it is actuating when you change the temp setting. Take it off to see if you can open/close the door by hand. Let me know what you discover for additional help.
check the blend door for proper operation. The blend door is under the dash, usually just a little right of center. There will be an actuator that moves the door handle when you change the temperature setting. If the actuator isn't moving, you'll have to figure out why. You can take it out and see if the door will move manually. If yes, check the actuator and replace if it doesn't work. Let me know if you need more help. If you reply, please provide year and model of the car.
