Hi,

when does the negative wire smoke? when your turning it over only or all the time?

this points to a motor that is stuck on and isnt spinning. Id take out your abs relay and vsc relay. If you can get it to pep boys auto they do a more extensive test for free.

SOURCE: hi my battery went flat

first check the level of water in the battery...if its totally dry, get a new battery and don't even mess with it. if its a maintenance free battery and more than three years old, replace the battery! try to replace with with nothing less than 600 cold chanking amps! i don't know where you live but if you live in a colder climate you'll need probably a 900 cca! first off, when a person jump starts your battery you are not supposed to hook up the negative to the dead battery..you find a good solid piece of metal on the engine to clip it on to.also when you have hooked it up correctly get in the good car and rev it to 2k for about two minutes to give the dead battery a charge then try to start the other car..if it doesnt start it my need a better engine ground. sounds to me though that just buying a new battery would solve all your problems!

Alternator smoked up while battery was installed turned ignition on to verify i had power to the car than knocked the negative post off on accident and reattached than smoke

no car told at all maker model nor year. ouch 100 years of cars. wow.
all that is wrong,
battery rules
key off. and in pocket or work bench set. near have 2 keys near ignition
battery rules are neg off first ,POS off last.
and POS on first and neg last (the reverse going back in)
if only working on car the rule is battery lug neg off only.
never reverse battery cables, ever, or smoke out. or jumper backwards. BOOM even both cars jumped BOOM . learn this now.

never let lugs hit the body of car or ever.
the silly panic stuff you read (small wires) stuff?? yeah well know.
is, battery disconnect the radio goes dead lacking its code easy to get. or all computers on board go to learn mode, well let it .
lost radio stations memory , no crying towel there (DIY)
ever mess with ALTERNATOR lugs. pull BAT main NEG first or blow up the alternators huge 100amp fuse.
you need to learn electrics first. or blow things up just working say engine problems, do all ASE electric classes first, take notes.

learn not to blow up $3000 computers in the car , now to chip shortages (china chip bull)
and now 2times overpriced. OUCH, learn it now.
how to do it right. (and what happens done wrong, matters too)
you let the smoke out, for sure .

Readiness code

First check and make sure the cables are attached to the correct posts. positive to positive and neg to neg. If so, make sure the battery is charged. Even new batteries can be defective. Try jumping it with a booster box or jumper cables. Check your main fuse. During installation, if the cables crossed it could have popped your fuse. Good luck

Why would you replace a gas cap?
You were told, two EVAP Codes ,and what they were.
Have the vehicle smoke tested and repaired. You have two different size leaks,in that system.

The VSC and Check engine light turn on for lexus 1999 the cood is p0500

Toyotas and Lexus cars have some unique feaures. If your fuel cap is loose or the O2 sensors on the exhaust are faulty this results in an emission problem and the engine computer unit (ECU) engages the check engine light and disables the VSC (the VSC light comes on to warn you that it has been disabled). However you have p0500 code which says the car has no speed sensor signal. The seed sensor is located on the side of the final drive from the transmission and its job is to measure the speed of rotation of the output shaft. The ECU will compare the signals from this shaft along with the speed sensors in the wheel hubs. If there is a difference between these signals the VSC is engaged to apply braking effort to which ever wheel is slipping (running faster) than the other or that the transmission speed sensor would warrant.
So you either have an emission fault has fed back to the VSC and speed sensor missing (p0500) condition, or you have a faulty sped sensor which has tripped the VSC light and in turn the CEL.
Check your fuel filler cap is on tight, turn radio off and disconnect the negative lead to the battery for 5 minutes (this should clear the ECU memory of the code error). If p0500 error and CEL and VSC lights come back on then check the electrical connection to the speed sensor. Ensure it is clean and making a good contact, check the wiring for continuity. If everything else looks good consider changing the speed sensor.

My car would not start had it jumped and white smoke came out of the engine the negative was hooked up, then I read not suppose to jump with the negative to negative. Anyway got it started, then none of...

As long as the smoke did not come from the wiring or the battery it's OK. Neg to neg connection is for safety reasons(To prevent short circuit) so if you did not see major sparking you should be allright. Rats can cause havoc in a car. They simply love the insulating plastic on electrical wiring. Look for chewed wiring and re-insulate.
ps. Jump starting is not the cure all for a dead battery. Especially if the car's been standing for a long time.(long periods of inactivity are not kind to a vehicle) Cold weather makes things that much worse. Get the battery properly re-charged.

Codes need to be reset in my cars computer?

if you had it replaced it should have already been set however you can reset your cars computer by taking the positive battery cable off the battery and waiting 2-3 min and then touching the positive cable from the car to the negative cable which is still attached to the neg post on the battery for about 5 sec and the hooking it back up. that will reset the computer which would configure any new sensors. when the computer reads a bad code it bypasses that sensor so your car will run. it wont run to the best of its ability though - that's why you didn't pass an inspection. when you replaced the sensor the computer didn't notice because it already stopped reading that sensor when it went bad and doesnt know about the new one. when you reset the computer as i told you then it will read the new sensor and work properly.

Where is negative connection for battery on 2006 dodge charger srt8

Also, to add to some mild confusion, the terminals under the hood on the charger are just there for a jump, thus there is only a positive terminal. The battery is actually stored in the trunk next to the spare.
