Only on one pin and that is from the battery through a fuse
the rest will be dead until you go to start the engine in which case a second plug get power to close the relay points to allow power to the glow plugs

the best way i have found to test glow plugs is to disconnect the wire to the plug and get you 12volt test light and put your negitive lead of the test light on the positive battery cable so when you touch the test light to any ground the light will light. so now go check your glow plugs and if you have one that doesnt light the light its burned out.
good luck

SOURCE: 1992 F250 7.3 idi diesel glow plug relay has power

Have you checked the glow-plugs? On that system if one glow-plug is burnt up than it will not let the main relay in the controller to kick in.
Check all the glow-plugs make sure they are working.
The easiest way to check them is with a regular 12v test light.
Hook up the negitive end (aligator clip end ) to the battery + terminal and than with the other end of the test light ( pointed end ) touch each glow- plug connector tip ( with the glow-plugs harness connector removed ) and see if the test light lights up.
If the test light up--- glow-plug is good. If not than the glow-plug is bad--burnt out .

Truck wont start, but only if you hear a click

I copied this from my GM service manual for 1982 6.2 diesel.

1. If the glow plug relay is not clicking on and off then turn the ignition to the RUN position and connect a 12V test light to ground and touch the pink/black wire in the glow plug relay connector.

2. If the light is off repair the open cicuit in the pink/black wire to the splice. If the light is on then touch the light blue at the glow plug relay connector.

3. If the light is off replace the glow plug relay. If the light is on, disconnect the connection at the thermal controller and touch the black wire in the connector.

4. If the light is off, repair the open circuit in the light blue wire from the thermal controller to the glow plug relay. If the light is on repair open circuit in black wire back to a splice. If no trouble is found replace the controller.

You should also get your hands on this Haynes book. Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part # 10330. Excellent coverage on the 6.2 and 6.5. In it, they say that early 82\'s have a hole at the number 2 hole on the pin connector of the wire harness for the thermal controller. this allows dirt in there and corrodes the pins. Remove the connector and clean thoroughly the pin area on the connection and controller. Seal the hole with some silicone. If things are still acting up, replace the wire harness connector.

Hope some of this helps.

Hyundai Accent 1.5 Diesel. Intermittent problem with starting. Sometimes starts and runs fine. However sometimes on starting car will not run above 750 rpm and throws out HUGE clouds of black smoke. ...

it sounds like a glow plug issue. perhaps a bad glow plug relay. I would think its the relay if the problem comes and goes. If it were a bad glow plug the problem would be constant. check for volts at the glow plugs next time the car acts up. If you find no volts, tap on the glow plug relay next time you turn the key on. This may cause it to activate. if so then replace relay

Firstly fit a manual overide to the heater plugs .relay -push button type switch -wire -connectors ,run a wire direct from battery to relay ,other side to heater plug relay output so it feeds all the heaters ,push button inside cab with a 12v feed from ignition switch running to relay then other side of relay to earth ,leave vehicle on charge often on trickle charge where possible ,also on a full tank of diesel put in a litre of petrol to stop diesel waxing up ,nice old rug or blanket over engine and it will first time every time ,only use the petrol when weather below minus 5c though ,great vehicles these peugeots but i do like my ford transit

2003 GMC Seirra Duramax Deisel won't start

If it cranks and won't start then it is probably your glow plug system which is used to help with starting as diesel engines have no plugs and rely on compression. It also helps to run a lighter oil in the winter so it will crank faster. You can ohm out the plugs to see if they are broken. I am not sure of the wiring on the GMC but usually diesels have several wired in parallel
