Fuel tank runs out when my fuel gauge still reads more then 1/4 tank. When the tank is full the gauge is way past full.It is just replacing the fuel tank sensor? How difficult is that?

By the sound of it it may just adjusting the float in the tank, however it could be the sending unit as well. What year is it
