1989 dodge ram 150 4/w drive pickup has no oil pressure showing on the gage, driving or sitting still.

Change the sensor. it appears to be a known issue.

have the oil pressure checked with an independent gage as sometimes gages in the dash don`t show correct pressure. how long has it been since the oil was changed as oil when it gets dirty it thins out and can affect oil pressure. if you don`t hear any ticking with the motor running chances are the pressure is either good or just a little low. testing oil pressure with an independent gage will tell the tale.

1989 ,yes its over 20 yrs old and worn out by the sound of it ,could just be the oil light switch which has a plastic cover over it and this cover is full of oil throwing the oil light on .but i think its more likely its worn out ,if it is worn out then may i suggest a nice peugeot partner ,renault or a ford courier ,all diesel manual and will do 50+ mpg ,the opel van isnt bad either neither is the VW caddy .

you have an oil pressure sending unit located at rear of engine next to distributor. that would cause the oil gauge not to work. also look for a short in electrical wires to oil sending unit. hope this will help!!!

Should be 30 U.S. gal (25 imp gal; 110 L)as you have the higher end model. The lower end models have 22 U.S. gal (18 imp gal; 83 L)

Sorry this is not an easy fix the clutch packs in the transmission are slipping, usually caused by wear, but the hydraulic pump is probably getting week. As the oil warms up the oil gets thinner and the hydraulic pressure decreases. Times for a overhaul of the transmission, and if the torque converter can not be flushed a new torque converter is recommended. You may get lucky buy changing the fluid several times, but if the transmission is 22 years old it may not help.

Maybe just bad gas. Change fuel filter, Add some fuel conditioner to it, or fuel treatment,with moisture remover, and top it up with fresh fuel.
