It sounds like your machine needs either the shifter calibrated or replaced. It doesn't seem like any non electric portions of the shifter are broken or you wouldn't be able switch between gears. You might want to have a technician use a multimeter to find out if any shifter-related wires have stopped working. You can also reference the troubleshooting section of your manual for another perspective.
What to do next, find your receipt and take it back to where you purchased it and get another one. Make sure the new one works right before you leave the desk of store.

I did find a thread that referred to an "always in a forward gear" A4LD problem, ... Eventhough band adjustment should not have anything to do with the .... in the transmission and then it auto shifts through the gears normally.
Oct 21, 2011 - 700r4 forward in all gears, even neutral, no reverse ... It has no reversebut when I put it in reverse it tries to pull the motor down like the rearend ...
Try this quick fix solution.
Put vehicle in park or neutral, press the switch or turn the dial to 2H, put vehicle in reverse and reverse the vehicle aproximately 10m's or around 30ft.
Now drive vehicle forward, and this should unlock the 4wd mode.
If this doesn't work then your solenoid may need replacing.
I assume this is an automatic since you mention "Park". If so, it seems as if one of the planetary cluches is worn out (or you have insufficient pressure in the tranny). Either way, it is tranny rebuild time. Is the transmission fluid brown and burnt smelling or a nice bright red? Any particles floating in it?
I think you are saying the vehicle pulls forward,no matter what gear you put the shifter in?If this is the case, there is a problem with the forward clutch.I've seen this one over and over in many different transmissions and vehicles. The forward clutch pack is always applied whenever the vehicle is moving forward. It is never applied in reverse,or neutral. So,the forward clutch pack loses clearance from normal wear and tear,or a seal in the pack goes bad,and the clutches start slipping....and slipping........still slipping.....until they get SO hot,the clutch plates and steel plates fuse together, are welded together. This is why your Millenia is going forward in reverse and neutral. It's either that or you have a problem with the shifter cable,or linkage, and you didn't mention anything about the detents,or not being able to obtain Park,so i assume all that is ok
