U need to reset the fuel cutoff switch, that is what the light means. U didn't say what model, if it is a station wagon it is in the left rear cargo area trim panel, there is a hole with a plug in it, if it is a sedan it should be in one of the kick panels, also a hole, I think passenger side, if reseting the switch doesn't turn he light out then the switch is defective. this info is in the owners manual as well.

SOURCE: I ran out gas in my 1997 cad deville, put gas in, now wont start

if you were completely out of gas you can prime the car by turning the key forward until just before the starter engages and back off again. do this several times. doing this will allow the fuel pump to prime.

SOURCE: my 91 volvo 740 won't start

Could be that there is a clog at the tank-there is a screen there- can be accessed through access panel behind rear seat- also try taking off fuel line at engine and starting engine--if there is fuel present then I would rule out the tank screen problem. Good luck--let me know if that helps. C

SOURCE: 1991 dodge spirit.. ran great

usually if thats the only way it will start that means you have no fuel to engine. first off, check the fuse and relay for the fuel pump. next get under car at fuel tank and put your hand on tank while someone turns ignition to on. if the pump works. then you can feel it vibrate. a fuel pump only turns on a few seconds, to pressurize the fuel line. then when running its on all the time. check fuse and relay first before doing anything else. have a good one !!

My hhr ran out of gas, filled it, now it wont start at all.

Only Ford products have a Fuel Safety
Reset Switch & they only open in an
accident
Have it towed to a shop & diagnosed
Given the age & the fact you ran it out
of fuel,I would say the fuel pump needs
to be replaced

I ran outa gas and now my car starts but when u push the gas it dies

There is a screen on the inlet of your fuel pump (internal to tank) and an in-line filter external to the tank. Running out of fuel puts all deposits on the screen and filter, clogging them up. Clean the screen, replace the filter.

Have the crank shaft sensor check out. This is a beginning of the problem. After that it will never be able to start since the ECM doesn't know what the position of the piston reported through the crankshaft sensor to turn on the proper ignition. Good luck.
