How can I test if the ecu computer needs to be replaced on a 1992 corolla? The car starts but only runs for a second or so.

The motor runs great with a home made vapor carb and the fuel injectors plugged in and/or unplugged. It appears that the ecu injects fuel until the car starts, but stops the fuel injectors as soon as it starts. The fuel injectors were tested good. The fuel pump is good. Good pressure at the fuel rail. New fuel filter. Any suggestions?

You won't be able to 100% test the ECU yourself. Carry out all the checks and you will end up with a balance of probabilities.

The ECU can't output signals unless it is receiving proper inputs and has a good supply and ground, sometimes several of each.

If the car has an immobiliser it is something else to check and possibly worry about because if it isn't disarming it will seem as if the ECU is dead. Mainstream manufacturers were fitting a PATS system to some of their products by 1992.

You need a wiring diagram and some decent test gear to check the continuity of every wire that could be suspect, check every voltage, check every ground, every sensor - it is a long tedious process. Checking the inputs and outputs of the ECU with an oscilloscope helps.

From your description, if I had to guess, I would suggest the signal from the distributor or crank/camshaft sensor is being lost.

SOURCE: 1995 jetta 2.0 fuel pump

ok could be a few things.

Have you changed the inline fuel filter? these usually have paper filter elements and after a while can be clogged with moisture which blocks fuel flow. The fuel pump will still have good pressure but the fuel rail will lack the flow required and you may burn out an injector as its running too lean. Secondly, the MAF sensor, could be dirty, clean it with electrical cleaner.

I think its more likeylt the fuel filter blocked. Try and bypass it if possible, reset the ECU and try agiain

SOURCE: No Injector Pulse

run fault codes as there is a problem sensor in the system. volts at the injector is suspect as the voltage will vary with the fuel requirement.

Testimonial: "It's not throwing any codes. I was just sitting at idle and the car stalled. It didn't give me any indication at all that something was wrong. I tried to restart it and it just keeps cranking and cranking."

I have a 2005 corolla and have swap engine ecu but de car starts and goes off. how do i programme de ecu

first, there is an open recall for ecu problems on corolla, have your vin run by your toyota dealer to verify, hope you still have your old ecu,a new is around 1,800$ plus reprogram and re-write the vin on new computer, dont know if they will program yours(used) ask if there no other option.

Cold starting a diesel

You can get the error codes from the ecu. Many auto parts stores will loan a meter to do it.
Also test the glow plugs using the vehicles system. Do them individually.
