The problem with that is the key needs to be in the on or run position first or the car will never start. All of the computer systems have to have power or the engine cannot run. To do this you will have to remove the electrical plug from the back of the key cylinder and figure out which connectors will have to be jumpered from a wiring diagram.
The starter is easy, just run a heavy wire (like 12 Gauge) from the battery + terminal to a switch inside then back to the small terminal on top of the starter. If you shine a flashlight down on the starter you can see a single wire with a black connector plugged on to a single blade. Put 12V power on that blade and it will spin the starter. Make sure the switch can handle lots of current and that it is momentary contact switch, you don't want to accidentally keep the starter spinning when it's not needed.

Hi,
When you say you were able to remove it - does this mean the broken part of the key? if it was, then just take both pieces to a locksmith that cuts auto keys, and have a replacement cut. If it uses a transponder, make sure this is copied also.
With a working key, remove any plastic surround around the lock mechanism (put the steering wheel back on), and look at the lock mechanism around the actual lock. Turn the key to position 1. This should allow a small pin on the side of the lock body to be pressed in - releasing the lock cylinder, which will come out on the key when you pull it.
These are some makes where you have to drill to depress the catch, but this is a hands-on job for an auto locksmith.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for using Fixya.

SOURCE: old style starter relay wiring
Normally on the old style starter solenoid/relay you have two large bolts for the battery and starter cables to attach to. There are two other smaller bolts that are used for the starter actuation. The "I" is used to add voltage to the points so the engine will start while the solenoid is in the start position, the other "S" goes to the start button or start side of the ignition switch. Old style ignitions used to drop the voltage to the coil during start and the engine would turn and turn until the key was released and then the engine would catch and start. To cure this they made the solenoids were designed to give temp power to the ignition system when cranking and starting. Hope this helps, RAC

there is a pin in the rod that normally breaks, if you unbolt the ignition switch from the bottom of the column you will be able manually move the switch,
