Question about 2003 Volkswagen GTI

1 Answer

My sunroof will not close and stay closed. When the knob is in off postion it goes to close and reopens itself. It seems that the knob/motor is confused and thinks its always on open. How do I fix this?

My sunroof won't close

Some sunroofs have a open switch like the drivers window. You push it and the window will open automaticly. The button on your sunroof could be jammed so even though you can close it as soon as you release it, it will auto open on it's own.

2011 kia optima sunroof won't close

I found the web reference below at a different fix-it site ... for your exact year & model Kia
So if the phonebook method does not work you might try this:

"It's reopening because of obstacle detection. When sunroof motor current draw goes high the module will reverse the motor because it thinks it has hit something.
The issue may be calibration, the motor, a damaged guide, foreign debris preventing proper movement, or it could be the module itself. Depending on what the issue is you may or may not be able to get it closed until the problem is repaired.
First disconnect the battery to clear the module's memory. Once the battery is reconnected turn the key on, press and hold the sunroof open button. Continue holding the button for ten seconds after it is full open.
Then press and hold the close button and see if it will go full closed. If it does close continue to hold the button again for ten seconds.
If this doesn't work then the problem is going to need to be repaired for it to close."

Helpful?
Good luck on your troubleshooting

Sunroof on 2003 jetta tdi won't close. it has power, and operates, but will always reopen, by itself, when it is almost closed. ???

There may be something obstructing the path. Possibly the wind deflector? It's also possible that the sunroof knob is out of sync with the sunroof itself. Try putting your key in the drivers door lock, turning and holding that position while the sunroof closes. (not sure which way you have to turn) You can also close it manually with a hand crank (which is actually an allen wrench)

The sunroof on a scion tc 2005

My best bet is its your Sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly. I would also check your sliding roof control switch and you wiring harness. In fact i would check those those first since they are the fastest to check and then that only leaves your sub assembly. you will need to remove your headliner to test everything. And you will need a volt meter that you can get for a couple bucks at most electrical stores. use your volt meter to make sure your getting the same amount of to power to your switch as your getting just past it when it is closed. then test the wiring closest to your motor with the switch closed and there a very minimal amount of volts lost. If everything checks out i would go with the sub assembly. Hope this helps.

Manual close for sunroof

My Audi A4 has a manual crank spot under a flip cover just in front of the roof on the ceiling. If your roof is opening randomly, it may be just bent contacts for the switch (this is known on the A4). Remove the sunroof switch from the headliner, take the switch itself off the mount, and you'll see the contacts underneath. Bend them more vertical so they can contact the switch knob more easily, and try it out. This fixes the problem on the A4 and your Golf likely has a similar design.
