Question about Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

While driving down a road, all of a sudden the engine dies without any warning. The first time this happened, I was in idle awaiting my left turn arrow and didn't notice till I put my foot on the gas that it wasn't running any more. Yesterday, I was driving home and noticed the oil light turned on and my engine was not running.

First thing is check the battery post connections. See if all is tight and clean, then we'll move on to the ignition circuit if we need to.

Ok, do you have a 'conventional' system with a distributor, or is it no distributor and crank sensor? You may have a ECM (engine control module up on top of the engine.
What make, model, and year is it?

That's good. it's a bit easier to check. You will have to check the wires at the distributor. You need to pull the cap off the distrb. and look at the 'rotor' and check things over. Do yo know what I'm saying here, I don't know your level of knowledge..???

You might be able to get some info from the car computer, they have fault codes that can be read with a device at the automotive stores. Can you get there?

1991 Cadillac DeVille (has 110,000 miles on it) suddenly dies while driving. Starts and idles fine, but shuts off after driving only 1-2 blocks. What's wrong and how do we fix it?

There are many things that can contribute to this problem. It sounds like it may be ignition related. Possibly an ignition control module or ignition coil. The check engine light coming on while driving is the key to finding the problem. The light comes on when the computer finds a problem and will then store it in its memory. Have the codes checked for what the computer has found to be at fault and with a little diagnostics, should lead you to the problem

1990 caravan with 3.0 engine starts and dies suddenly. may or may not start back up can be driving down the road and it will die, again may or may not start right back up. no codes showing.

The idle air control is not operating correctly, on top of the intake you should see a hose nipple with a black plug, pull it off start the car it will then idle and put it back on, If it suddenly stalls, you will need to clean the throttle body and idle air control.and youll be back on the road in no time

Check your RPM sensor.  Mine did virtually the same thing.  It was NOT the fuel pump like Audi dealer said-after I repaired it.
