Have you double checked to make sure that you have fire at the plugs? Remove one from the engine, plug it back into the wire and lay it on top of the engine. Turn over the engine and watch for spark. It should be blue. If it's orange that is a weak spark and new plugs and wires are in order.
If you have spark then you will have to check your timing, because if you have fuel and spark they aren't getting together at the right time. Make sure you have the wires on the cap in the proper sequence, starting at number 1 cylinder. It should be at the 5 o'clock position looking from the front and go 1-6-5-4-3-2 clockwise from there. Cylinders 1-3-5 are front to back on driver's side and 2-4-6 are pasenger's side. An in-line 6 should be 1-5-3-6-2-4 and number 1 would be 6 o'clock.
If it still won't start then line the bottom pulley up so the timing marks are lined up an d pop the cap to see where the rotor button is. It should either be on number 1 or off by 180 degrees. A full rotation of the engine should line them up. If the marks are off by less than180 but more than 3 or 4 degrees you probably need to replace the timing chain. It's not uncommon for a GM to jump time when you shut it off. If it's off a little bit you could turn the distributor to line the button with the cap and it should start then. Hope this helps.

Better pull the dist. cap make sure the rotor turns when cranked, and if it does put a rotor on it.They will "fire" a hole thru the rotor to the shaft and kill the spark.

Truck wont crank. we have put new distributor cap, rotor button, coil pack, plugs, wires, and fuel pump. we also checked our firing order.

you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.

1986 chevy pu 1/2 ton.2 wheel drive 4.3 litre v-6. My Truck sometimes starts, sometimes runs sometimes just turns over but won't start..I have replaced cap, wires.plugs, rotor, coil, battery and ignition...

Check your fuel pressure. This will tell you if you are getting enough fuel. If you are not getting the proper pressure either your fuel filter is clogged or your fuel pump is failing and needs to be replaced.

Turned off then wouldnt start ,took ignition apart cleaned up ,no spark to plugs cap, rotor ,wires good power to coil and module

If there is no spark to the plugs, but good cap, rotor and wires; then if the there is good power to coil and module, then the module or coil must be bad.

1989 GMC engine turns great , no spark at coil or plugs, had coil tested and repalced- new rotor and cap. not sure where to go next

Check your fuses (ECM) and also recheck your wire leads to the coil. Your ICM (ignition control Module) may also be bad, it's located in your distributor under the rotor. You can have that tested also to make sure it's working 100%, there common to go bad from corrosion caused by condensation under the distributor cap.
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck.
