Pinging generally is caused by failure of the knock sensor. Have a code check done and likely it will show that code. If so, replace the sensor. You can have code tests done free at most larger parts stores.

5.9 Lt 2001 dodge durango has 20 percent compression on cylinder 7, ran really luggish and engine shakes alot, was told could drive on 7 out of 8 cylinders after a couple weeks of driving it, i started it...

it sounds to me that #7 has a valve train problem, wiped cam to broken rocker arm, bent pushrod, broken spring, bent valve or burnt bad! Or it has broken ring on piston. shouldnt have kept driving, very bad idea. pull valve cover to check valve train. I would start there before going deeper into motor.

Pinging engine

The most likely cause of "pinging", also known as pre-detonation, in modern engines is a malfunctioning EGR system. Your check engine light should be coming on and setting either "knock sensor" codes or "EGR system" codes or both. I recommend BEGINNING diagnosis by scanning your onboard computer network.

The car runs good but when you are not accelerating or decellerating it pings

Cars ping on hard exceleration or light/medium exceleration up hill or from take off but not at idle or declerating. I would check belt on front of engine and remove it to check alternator, water pump, power steering pump, a/c compressor clutch, idler/tensioner pullies for excessive play. Also check for exhaust leaks because sometimes they may sound like a ping and another thing you might want check is the catalytic convertor, the elment inside will come loose and rattle and this is notice more at idle and on a decel. If you tap catalytic convertor with hammer and you hear a rattle then replace catalytic convertor.

When engin gets hot it starts to **** is the plugs

if it is overheating , ti will ping. do not drive like this. Low on coolant? why getting hot? or do you just mean at operating temp? If yes, your EGR valve is plugged or not opening. EGR reduces ping on warm engine by reburning exhasut gases.

Service engine light on. Ping sound.

THE VERY 1ST THING U NEED TO DO IS FIND OUT WHAT TROUBLE CODE WAS STORED WHEN THE CHECK ENG LIGHT CAME ON, THAT WILL BE THE KEY TO THE PING ISSUE.

I want to change the oil pump in a 2000 Acura RL

You Ultimately will need to Get it Rebuilt. But, For now it will be fine, Just Keep listening for the Ping and Check the Oil Continuously. Until you can afford to get it Rebuilt.

1993 Camry Check Engine Light

Therre is no DTC code "5". The DTCs start at 12. If the knock sensor (there are actually 2) was bad, you would have an acceleration issue. The knock sensor changes the timing of the spark to eliminate detonation, or "pinging". Do you have a "Ping" condition/valve rattle on acceleration?
To reset the light, open the hood, remove the 15 amp EFI fuse for 5 minutes. Replace it, and start the car and drive it until it reaches operating temperature. If the light comes back on instantly, you have a bad sensor or a bad wire.
