Taking of the starter off a 94 Chevy 6.5L

How do you get it off? Do you have to take off the sensor below the Starter?

It is easier if you remove the knock sensor first but you don't really have to. Caution if you remove it some are in a blank boss and others are in coolant hole you could get wet.

Check all of the battery terminals and cables and check the wires on the starter/selonoid, start from the battery and follow the cable out and check all conections , clean and tighten them and if it still does it the starter/selonoid is bad and needs replacement...

REMOVE THE STARTER FLY WHEEL COVER. STARTER BOLTS IS VERTICAL BOLTED INTO THE ENGINE.

you take the exhaust off, u don't have to remove the trans for any starter replacement on any S10

it sounds like your ignition switch could be bad, it is mounted on the steering column under the dash, it is the actual switch that activates the ignition and starter when you turn your key. if it is going bad it will give the same symptoms that you have described.

If you have the proper voltage at the starter, (battery voltage) and the starter won't turn, it is the starter or the engine. Try turning the engine over with a wrench on the harmonic balancer.

Chevy S10 Pickup Starter. Removed the two bolts


Just changed a starter in a 94 S10 4x4. The only way to remove the starter was to take the passenger side exhaust manifold off and bring the starter out that way. Installation the same in reverse. Hope this helps. Don
