If it is a sensor or relay, would this be an expensive problem? (It does try to turn over, but won't start).

My 2000 Saturn SL has trouble starting. I have to try several times to get the motor to start. I was told by another expert that it may be a sensor or relay problem. If so, will this be an expensive problem to repair?

Hi,

In the absence of exact specifics on your problem I have outlined a few scenarios below;

If the car is turning the starter slowly either the battery is failing and not holding a charge properly or there may be a problem with the starter motor itself.

If you are turning the ignition several times before you get the starter motor to engage at all this is either due to a problem with the starter solenoid or bad wiring or loose connections or a problem with the ignition switch itself.

If the car is turning over normally and then failing to start these problems are either electrical or fuel based.

There can be various causes for this

1. A faulty fuel pump relay as the relay is used to run the fuel pump for two seconds upon first starting the vehicle to pressurize the fuel system.

2. A weak ignition coil(s)
3. Badly fouled spark plugs

4. Faulty plug or HT leads

5. A faulty IAC valve.

6. A faulty cold start valve.(if applicable to your specific engine).

7. A faulty coolant temperature sensor can also make an engine hard to start as it sends a false signal to the vehicles computer.
Other issues can occur with cam timing sensors and other sensors in the engine and if the problem is not immediately apparent from what has been outlined it is advisable to have the cars computer scanned for error codes which will help pinpoint the issue.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

It could be a bad sensor or relay. Does it turn over but not start? Then it would be one of these. Is your check engine light on by chance? If so, then you should have your engine codes read. That would pinpoint exact location of problem. Many part stores do this for free.

sounds to me like the wiper motor may need to be replaced, but before doing that see if there is a wiper relaay in the fuse box, it is a lot cheeper than a motor and it may be as simple as popping it out and putting a new one in. Also check the wiper linkage, it too could just be stripped. Hope this helps. Stay out of the rain. Hope this helps.

1.9 motor runs at 2000 rpm at stop in drive 2000 Saturn Sl2

Sounds like your timing is off. Could be your timing belt is off or your distributor is off.
Both are tricky to work on. Might even be one of the fly wheels are out off sink.
If your lucky and it's the distributor all you need to do is start the car, loosen the bolts just a little,
enough to turn it, than turn it by hand .But DON"T turn it to much.
You can use your ear to hear the difference when turning. Only need to turn it a fraction of an inch at a time to hear the difference.
Hope this help and good luck.

My 2000 Saturn sl1 recently showed codes po733 and po734.What exactly does this imply and where would I start if I wanted to try fixing the problem myself?

po733- gear 3 ratio incorrect, po734- gear 4 ratio incorrect. this is how to fix. You can try replacing the shift solenoids inside the transmission as long as the trans fluid is nice and clean looking. If the trans fluid is dark or burnt looking, it time for a new tranny if you need further assistance please let me know and i will be glad to assist you. Thanks, Midwest-Tek

sounds like the fuel regulator might be bad. it can cause too much fuel at start up. thats why it will start at wide open throttle. more air for the fuel mixture

I have a 2000 saturn sc1 and the wipers stopped working. i replaced the fuse. the shop said there is no power to the motor. what is next?

test light or dvom from start to finish, find out where the loss of voltage is. start from the battery to the fuse panel, panel to wiper switch, switch to motor, motor to ground and so on.

it would help you to google search a wiring diagram or buy a hanes manual.
