If you smell steam/water/antifreeze inside the vehicle, then most likely you have a heater core issue. If it is more 'overheating' smell outside of the vehicle, it could be overflow container leaking on hot parts, leaking hose, radiator leak, etc.

Blazer engine dies after driving for a while when it is hot outside. I let it sit for 30 mins and it starts. had the thermostat changed, not it. Fuel pump changed, not it. No one can find the problem. Help

Check the Electronic Control Module ECM and the coolant sensor for the electric radiator fan also let the vehicle run and see if the fan kicks on if it doesnt after running awhile and the car dies then its one of those 3 hope i was able to help i had a 90s blazer and had to put a smaller temp thermostat in it started with the 195 i changed it to the 180

1998 CHEVY BLAZER STARTS FIRST TIME WHEN DRIVEN FOR SHORT DISTANCE AND ENGINE IS TURNED OFF IT WONT RESTART AGAIN UNTIL YOU WAIT FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES THEN STARTS RIGHT UP HAVE HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH...

You might want to look at your fuel pressure. Test the pressure cold, turning the key on before starting it and then when it is hot,

You could also have a coil that is not putting out spark when it gets too hot. The engine gets hotter when you shut it down because the water is not being circulated. Once the vehicle is shut down the temp increases for a while. It could also be an ignition modual, sometimes just before total failure they quit working when they get hot.

As you can see there are a lot of things that can cause this and it makes it hard for a repair shop to diagnose with out having it for enough time to duplicate the problem.

If you want to try yourself, you will need at least a fuel pressure Gage.

Hope this helps

Engine shuts off while driving after 20 to 40min.

It sounds like a heat related fault to me,probably under the hood.Check all plugs, make sure the connectors are clean.Use a contact cleaner if any terminals look 'dodgy'.Please excuse the lingo,I'm Australian.

My chevy drives for 45mins then shuts off

Your ignition module is bad. Known to stop working when it gets hot and work again after it cools off. Replace it. Good luck
