The crankshaft and camshaft sensors are generally the main inputs though earlier engines tended to use a distributor or a Hall Effect Generator.

Not being familiar with the model makes specifics difficult but most electronic engine management systems work in a similar fashion. Mostly the only fault that will stop an engine is the loss of signal from the crankshaft and/or camshaft sensors. The loss of other sensor input(s) will cause a fault to be recognised by the ECU, which will record the fault, switch on the check engine light and switch to the get-you-home programme.
engine runs missing on 1 and 4 due to no grnd pulse from pcm everything new -- second computer with same prob. wiring cut 12 inches from pcm still no signal. WHAT SIGNAL causes the pcm to send grnd pulse to coil #!/#4 ?
I suggest you use an oscilloscope to verify outputs from sensors are being received at the ECU and use dedicated software/test gear to check live data.
One problem you are facing is the system is likely to be based on a digital rather than an analogue system. That means the ECU doesn't respond to an input in the conventional way but to variations in the duty cycle of various sensors/actuators, except probably the engine positional sensors.
In most cases with a digital system, if the fault isn't straightforward it is something best left to a specialist to sort out.
I'm sorry but in English you could have said TAKE IT TO A DEALER/MECHANIC who has a computer based testing system. But then guys like you who need poor people like me to ask questions would have to sit at home and ramble on in front of your mirror trying to impress yourself. Please stop commenting on my question as it appears you have nothing to offer this old man.

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan engine light on, missfire
That is a code for the secondary (spark) circuit on cylinder number 3. It is usually caused by a bad connection between the coil and the plug (take the coil off the plug and check for moisture in the boot). If not, it might be a bad coil...
