I have a 98 Camaro with a 3.8. It starts ok when cold but after running it, it will not restart. Kinda acts like a dead battery but has new battery and starter.

SOURCE: 1990 camaro was bought 3 weeks ago has a

I believe it is electrical, and someone,
1.Has tried to bypass the use of the correct ignition key,
2.Or a fusible link for the starter is blown.

Does the ignition key have a chip on the side of it? The 1990 Camaro uses an ignition key with a resistor on the side of it. (Chip)

I had a guy install a radio, cut many wires, then wired it up wrong.
I found fusible links in the engine compartment that were blown, and wires that weren't hooked up correctly.
Took a couple of days, plus the wiring schematic for the engine compartment, and interior, to figure out what he had done!

My suggestion would be to find out if the ignition key fits THAT car first. (Dealer info)
Find out if it's the correct steering column.
Then look under the engine compartment to check out the starter wiring. You'll need 1990 Camaro wiring diagrams.

The prior owner bypassed the ignition switch with that push button momentary switch, because either/or a fusible link has melted through, or it is the wrong ignition key. (And maybe a different steering column complete with key switch!)

The 'Chip' on the key is a resistor, and THE correct resistance is needed to bypass the theft deterrent system.

Testimonial: "Thank you! Now it's starting to make sense, we will have that checked out if possible"

SOURCE: 87 'C' Class motorhome powered by a ford 460

I had same problem in varius trucks and motorhomes with the same engine size (460)and this is caused by excesive heat from the engine in all 460's,when hot if I stoped at a gas station to fill, once I tryed to start it again it felt like the battery was almost dead and bearly turned the engine over.what I did was that I added an after market engine oil cooler and that fixed the problem.

SOURCE: New battery but still acts dead - Does computer need to be reset?

do not suspect computer.
1 the new battery may not have been charged from the store so would need to be charged before use, charge new battery on a charging set and see if this resoves the problem. *or use slave leads and start from a second vehicle)
2 your alternator may not be charging the battery so after a while it will just die. use a volt meter and check that volage is increaseing to your battery when the engine is running.
if not suspect alterantor defective and may need replacement.

you should clean the egr first and see if that helps.
egr is most likely your problem.
its going to have a build up of carbon and sometimes it will be so restricted that your car cannot run.

that will fix your problem i bet.
good luck

Cold air intake 97 camaro v8

Hey - Glad you're doing a power add on.
The short answer is no.

You can just disconnect the battery for 3-4 minutes.

When you hook the battery back up start and run the car normally. Maybe a 20 minute run ONE WAY to a friends house this will give the onboard computer time to adjust.

If the car isn't running well before you add the cold air and you put the cold air on right and hooked up ALL hoses then it will be right.
If you didn't purchase the CAI or Cold Air Intake - then you will need to check to be sure it was done right.

Best of luck with it.

Please vote me good if you like my answer.
If not post more on it and we can work out any other problems.

I have 2.8L VR6. It runs OK when its cold, then

This could be all sorts of things..probably not the fuel system (it is VERY reliable, unless someone starts tinkering with it). From you broad description it could well be an ignition fault. I take it it gets lumpy as it warms up, so (in order of cost) replace the plugs (insulation breakdown), the plug leads (buy one long one and move it round the system). If you are loosing water, you may have a gasket gone.

Battery dead , bought new battery , still didnnt start. lights kinda acting funny too

Its possible you bought a bad battery, make sure your connections are good at the battery and starter. Make sure the battery is grounded. With the lights acting funny sounds like you have a bad ground.

Have a 98 bravada need to crank it like crazy to get it started turn of and on key two or three times and it finally starts

if it is a 4.3 engine, the cold water temp. sensor may be bad. this acts kinda like a choke by putting extra fuel to the motor when cold. should be on the drivers side of the head

Battery goes dead when car sits 3-5 days 98 park ave

Obvious that something is drawing down the battery...Put a test light between the negative cable and the negative post of the battery (remove cable first) start pulling fuses till light goes out. That will tell you what system is drawing...you can then begin looking for the actual problem. If all fuses pulled and light remains on ,chances are you have an internal alternator problem.

Slow turn over

If the alternator was bad the battery would run down and be dead in a very sort time, this may be a combination of a battery on it's way out and or a starter issue, when starters start to act up they do so more hot than cold, have the battery and charging system tested by any of the chain auto parts stores like Kragen, it is free, if that checks ok replace the starter, also make sure the cables are clean and tight, they also can be an issue.
