Question about Land Rover Freelander

1 Answer

Hi, my freelander is a 1998 S reg 2.0TDI. Sometimes whilst driving the car, it judders for a second just like the engine cut out or something for a second and then carrys on fine. It hasn't done it much apart from today. It seems to do it more on longer journeys. I drove 100 miles today and it started doing it alot.

How do i check if this is the problem? If it is the problem, is it a big job to do?

Your problem may not be in the engine...I believe you have a fluid coupler in your transfer case...when they begin to fail, they can give you a similar sensation. This mostly will happen when hot, like on a long run...have it checked out.

Best to have a good dealer tech test this...they have more exposure to it and know what to look for... It is inside the transfer case and not easily serviceable unless you have experience with trans type gearsets. Don't forget though that I am not there and can't do more than make an educated guess...I'm wrong here much more often than I am when making hands on diagnosis only because I cant hear, see and drive your vehicle. That is why I always stress that you need to have hands on diagnosis by someone that is well versed in your problem. In your case, I really hope that it turns out to be something simple and less expensive!!!
Good luck!

What is causing a couple of second judder when accelerating away after changing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th gear ?

it may be from failing engine mounts allowing the engine to misalign the drive shaft under acceleration and allowing problems in the cv joints or "U" joint

Honda CRV V reg There is a bad judder through vehicle when turning steering on full lock when moving & there a cluck from the auto box not on drive take up but rolling starts or on kick down

Hi

The judder could be many things, check the power steering fluid and power steering belt.

Also on the gearbox, check the fluid. this could be the slave cylinder on it's way out or it may just need bleeding through.

Hope this helps

Renault megane engine light flashing and car is juddering.

I have 2 meganes im working on at the moment both have the same problem. the electrical falt light is on coz the pipe has snapped (or come off) under the bonnet on the passangers side close to the window (theres a black box about 2 inch wide the pipe connects underneath). if I reconect the pipe and grab the engien with both hands it wobbles and the pipe pulls off. I suspect this is coz one (or all) the engien mountings are shagged. and this will be the cause of the juddering when driveing in first and second gears. solutions iv have come across for juddering involve changeing the coil pack but thats nothing to do with the problem my 2 cars have as one of them has new coils. they are 1.6 petrol, p reg and s reg

Engine missing, car jerking and juddering

you might have a bad plug wire it doesn't have to be loose you could have a hole or cut in the wire and it's not getting a good spark to the cylinder. the radio interferance tells me this might really be the problem
