93 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Driver side top hinge plate pulled completely off. Door held on by check strap restraint and bottom hinge. Trying not to use this door. Body shop wants $600 to repair. Their method is standard, cover all the bases to avoid liability in the event the door comes off later. All kinds of parts have to be removed, painted properly. Doesn't use the Chrysler supplied repair kit, just a thorough weld and pain job. Going to try to get a welder to tack it back on minimally until I can scrape up the bucks to do job right. $25 tack job is temporary. Will be looking for alternate methods, welders with design enginerring between the ears. A lot of good welder people out there, but the weld part is the easy part. Repairing with proper pain applied to prevent rust is the way to go. Rust promotes weakness down the road.

The hinges are held together with two top, and two bottom, 10
millimeter bolts. (At the pivot point) However, one half of the hinge
is welded to the pillar, the other half to the door. That being
said...The bolts can be removed to take the door off. BUT, in order to
go any further: the hinges will have to be cut and welded. So I guess
the answer your looking for is. Take the door off, unplug the wires,
cut and weld the half necessary to repair the deficiency
Here's the solution: You might want to park it under a tree and tie a rope to the door to pull it up when loosened. ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: Loosen the hinge-to-door bolts for lateral adjustment only. Loosen the hinge-to-body bolts for both lateral and vertical adjustment.
Determine which hinge bolts are to be loosened and back them out just enough to allow movement.
To move the door safely, use a padded prybar. When the door is in the proper position, tighten the bolts to 19–25 ft. lbs. (25.5–34.5 Nm) and check the door operation. There should be no binding or interference when the door is closed and opened.
Door closing adjustment can also be affected by the position of the lock striker plate. Loosen the striker plate bolts and move the striker plate just enough to permit proper closing and locking of the door.
The right way to fix that really is to weld a steel plate inside the pillar. it is complicated and if you don't know what you are doing you can start a fire. Likely you could do something similar using tulip head bolts on the exterior part and drawing the original metal into pre-drilled and countersunk holes in the plate. (plate should be no less than 1/4" thick. Likely that would give you some degree of structural strength. and a solid mount to attach the hinge to. There must be a design flaw in those door posts as I've seen too many tear off. Most I've seen have been repaired at good body shops and have lasted a long time after the repair. Good luck with it whichever way you decide upon!
go to dealer buy a new hinge if screwsare broke or stripped see if dealer has a repair plate or make one your self a small plate drilled and tapped or a nut welded to a plate besure to buy new screws at dealer tackweld a peace of wire to your new plate and fish in threw the top rear brake lite you will need someone to help start screws while you hold plate and lifgate.
if you open the drivers door and look in the hinge area you will find a rubber boot between the door and the main body, pull the boot back and you will find wires inside it, there should be a heavey wire (thicker than the rest) pull with a pair of pliers and you will find that it will come out,(wire broken) you will have to find the other end of the wire then re-join with solder and insulate well, this will solve all your problems..
(wire broken is the power cable running all electrics on drivers door) hope this helps
most likely the inner door handle has a broken hooking tab for the rod to the latch plate.most door panels are held in place with a few screws around the door pull handle and arm rest than most of the sides and bottom of the door panel are held by plastic snap clips. with a large straight blade screw driver start at a corner of the door panel , slide the blade of the screw driver under the edge of the panel and lightly pry out untill you lossen up one of the clips than slide along the screw driver to the next clip , keep going till the panel is lossened up.
from the late 80's to the 90's jeep cherokees have a known problem with there front door hinges. the first time i seen this on a jeep i thought it was a fluke but now owning a 93 cherokee i am goin through the same problem... most of the time its not the door pins (i am not saying this is not what is wrong with yours, but for the most part it is not the pins). on the inside of the sheet metal, where the door hinges are welded onto, tend to rust/wear out and cause up and down play in the top door hinge. the only way to fix it is to take the door off and reweld a new brace or support underneath the sheet metal, and the weld the door back into place... my jeep is goin threw this process right now... but if you dont fix the door soon it will acually rip the top door hinge out of place, allowing the door to almost touch the ground when opened.
