This is BS! The 2000 Dodge Caravan is built to make you take your vehicle in for AC service, the port in in the front on the passenger side right behind the radiator and in front of the engine block. But here is the kicker, it sits soooooo low down there that even a woman with a medium size hand (like me) can barely fit my hand down there to twist off the cap AND if you don't wait a few hours for the van to completely cool this pipe or maybe it's a hose that runs along the bottome of the engine will burn the **** outta ya! But wait til realize that the hose barely reaches and it's in a place where you will not be able to see the gauge.

Location of low pressure port 1996 pontiac firebird

Hello,
The low pressure port for charging the A/C system is located on the larger aluminum tube coming from the A/C compressor. It is usually located in the tube line near the accumulator. That is an alumninum cylinder about the size of a soda can or slightly larger usually located close to the firewall along the left fender side well. It will have a plastic screw on cap on it, usually stamped with an "L" on top. Your recharge hose will only connect to the low pressure side, the high pressure port is a different size valve for safety reasons. You can only get an accurate pressure reading with the engine running and A/C running at max cold. blower on high speed, after about 5 minutes of A/C operation. Temperature outside will also have an effect on the pressure reading, optimum ambient air temperature of 70-80 degrees farenheit. Directions for recharge are on your R134a refill kit, but the system does require 20-30 PSI for the compressor to kick on. If your compressor is engaging while you are refilling, you can probably do it successfully. If your pressure is extremely low and compressor does not kick on, you most likely have a leak in the system which will have to be found and fixed before you can charge the system......Mike

I want to recharge the a/c of my 2004 Rainier, but do not know where the low pressure port is and the caps are not marked with L or H. Help! Thank you.

The good news is a that vehicle has R134A which means the quick release from your refill can will only fit the low pressure side which is normally a little higher than the High. Unlike the old R22 systems the Low and High pressure connections are slightly different in size.

I am not exactly sure which ac port, High or low side (or both), to put R134a refrigerant into my 1984 LTD Crown Victoria. The ac hasn't worked in about 6 years. Not sure if ac stays charged while...

If the compressor really has sat that long, the seals will be dry and you will not likely be able to keep R134 in it. Always fill on the low pressure side. The fittings are a different size, so your fill hose should not fit on the high pressure side. The low pressure side is along the return from the cooler.

Want to add refrigerant. air conditioner not very cool. which is low pressure port for adding r134a coolant?

The newer cars have 2 ports. The large port which is the high side and small port, low side. The kit you buy to refill the air cond will fit only one of the ports and that's the small port. You don't want to hook up on the high side so, this is why ports are sized and the gauge will only fit one. The low side should be near the evaporator or on the evaporator.

Low side on ranger for the port on the ac

hmm ..if you are looking for the low side air conditioner port .. then locate the condenser (thats in front of and looks like the radiator) .. you will notice two tubes going to that ..one is large the other small .. the small tube is the high pressure side .. the large tube is the low pressure side ... follow the large tube back until you find a cap that covers the low pressure port .. thats where you would fill with new refregerant (r134a) .. if you buy r134a, you can also get a filler hose and gage.. that hose will only hook up to the low pressure port ..it wont fit the high pressure port ...

Ac problem

the refill bottle shouuld never be attached to the high pressure side (high side) .. the connections are different to prevent that .. if you did manage to hook that up, there would be great danger of the bottle exploding ... so you can only hook the bottle up to the low pressure side (large piple) ... the retrofit kit should have included adapters for both high and low pressure sides ... the correct adaptor should fit the R134a refill bottle hose ... it should also fit the low pressure port (you may have to remove the valve in the old port (read instructions for that) .. if the adapter does not fit then you might check with a dealer or air conditioner supply house for a special adapter ... R134a and R12 are completely incompatable so make sure you have washed out the system and replaced the dryer and sometimes the hoses ... you cant have any of the old lube left in the system .. its generally a good idea to replace all rubber parts for the changeover .. you will need to pull a vacuum for a couple of hours before refilling .. .

Where is the low pressure port to fill ac

The low pressure port should be on the Accumulator, that's the silver cylinder that has the low side A/C line going in to it. You'll see the valve on the cylinder for you to add the R134a, do not aver fill the system. Safest way is to open and close the refill valve and let the A/C run for 2 min and see who cold the system is getting adding little at a time. To much R134a in the system will also give you poor A/C performance, to high of pressure in the system will shut down the compressor also.
Thank you for using fixya and when you think the air coming out of the vent is cold enough, stop charging the system.

Low-pressure port I need identification

Basic AC system consists of Compressor pump (on engine), Condenser (front grill with radiator) and Evaporator (Firewall). Pump has two ports output (high pressure) and return (low pressure). Follow lines from pump. High side is usually between pump and condenser. Follow lines and find second port this will be low side (refill) port. Paint or replace port caps (red high, blue low). Also, refrigerant in system determines port size (R12 or R34).
