Usually when the check engine turns on is because the PCM detect a problem ..it could be any thing, mechanical , electrical or just a sensor, you have to take it to you mechanic to pull the codes or in auto-zone they do it for free, but any way the problem have to be fixed or the light will keep coming back...now an easy way to reset the light is just disconnect the battery cable..

Well all of those things happening when the Maintenance Required light coming on should tell you something right there. If you have your owner's manual, open it up and check under warning lights or indicators and see what it recommends.

Maintenance reqd indication light is still showing on the dashboard after have changed the oil filter and oil. What is the problem? My car is 2008 Toyota Avalon.

Set the display window to ODO.
Turn the ignition switch off.
While pressing the reset switch, turn the ignition switch on(IG). Keep pressing the reset switch for at least 5 seconds to complete reset procedure.

*IF this does not work you have be confused with the warning light, it may not be the oil life, but check engine light, refer to owners manual for clarity.

Maintanance required light on

turn the key to activate the power but not start the ignition, do this a handfull of times. The check engine light should blink a specific number of times, this can be referenced to identify the problem, after this happens the light should turn off until you have another problem! There's a difference between the "check engine" light and the "engine maintenance required" light (aka "Emission Maintenance Reminder" or EMR light). The EMR light is strickly a reminder that emission system maintenance is due. This includes the EGR valve, PCV valve, & Oxygen sensor. It is program to light at approximately 60,000, 82,500, & 120,000 miles. Because its activated by mileage, it does not necessarily mean that something has malfuction. Unfortunately, the only way to reset it is by using a diagnostic scan tool. Of course, you could always remove the bulb.

The maintenance required light is on but no engine or transmission codes show up. What else could be the problem? The oil was just changed. How do I turn the light off?

The maintenance required light does not indicate any problem with the engine or systems like a Check Engine Light (CEL) does. This light is normally a reminder to change the oil. Getting the light to turn off is really easy.

In order, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold down the trip odometer reset button.
2. Turn the key to the on position without starting the engine.
3. Continue to hold down the reset button; The light should go out within 10-15 seconds.

God bless and good luck.

Maintance light blinks 11 times when car is on

Maintenance required indicator reminds you that it is time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance. It is tell you that you need to get an oil change and all of you fluids to be checked and serviced. After the recommended time or mileage period the light will come on telling you it is time for your car to be serviced for whatever problems there might be. The dealer will reset the indicator after completeing the scheduled maintenance. You can reset the indicator yourself by Turning off the engine. press and hold the select/reset button in the instrument panell, then turn the ignition swithch ON(II). Hold the button for about ten seconds, until the indicator resets. If this doesn't stop the maintenance light from coming on then you need to take it to a honda dealer.

Please note:

Honda makes reference to proper vehicle maintenance in their service/user manual. Consult your authorized Honda dealer before doing anything that may void your vehicle warranty.

Owner's Manual page 193-197.

Resetting the Engine Oil Life
Indicator

Your dealer will reset the display
after completing the required
maintenance service. You will see
‘‘OIL LIFE 100 %’’ on the odometer/
trip meter display the next time you
turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.

If maintenance service is done by
someone other than your dealer,
reset the maintenance minder as
follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.

2. Press the Select/Reset knob until
the engine oil life indicator is
displayed.

3. Press the Select/Reset knob for
more than 10 seconds. The engine
oil life indicator and the
maintenance item code(s) will
blink.

4. Press the Select/Reset knob for
more than 5 seconds. The
maintenance items code(s) will
disappear, and the engine oil life
will reset to ‘‘100.’’

Important Maintenance
Precautions

If you have the required service
done but do not reset the display, or
reset the display without doing the
service, the system will not show the
proper maintenance intervals. This
can lead to seriousmechanical
problems because you will no longer
have an accurate record of when
maintenance is needed.
Your authorized Honda dealer
knows your vehicle best and can
provide competent, efficient service.
However, service at a dealer is not
mandatory to keep your warranties
in effect. Maintenance may be done
by any qualified service facility or
person who is skilled in this type of
automotive service. Make sure to
have the service facility or person
reset the display as previously
described. Keep all receipts as proof
of completion, and have the person
who does the work fill out the
maintenance record. Check your
warranty booklet for more
information.

How to turn off maintenance req'd warning lights on dash

this light 7407fc2.jpg correct? to troubleshoot this light, the car can be scanned with any OBD2 scanner/code reader. after it has been scanned, the scanner will have an option to erase all codes. once they have been erased the light will go off.

the only other way to make the light go off is to disconnect the battery for 15-30min. this will reset the engine ECU, causing the light to go off but also will erase any codes that may be stored in the EC
U. if the ecu resets and car is started and detects the same problem the light will come back on.

Check to make sure that the fuel tank cap is on tight.
When the fuel tank cap is loose:
The electronic engine control system warning light comes on as a temporary malfunction.
