This is perhaps the best example of why I do not recommend that people do not service their own air conditioning systems...Unless you have the proper equipment and extensive knowledge in a/c systems, you will invariably run into this kind of problem. It is possible that you have a leak somewhere that may have been the cause of the first compressor failure, or you have a seal problem in something you removed. Of course, you need to evacuate the system before charging and make sure it holds vacuum before charging...If this was done, the leak would have been caught before you charged it.

I think when you say neon , you are talking abut Freon, if so..was that problem before?, if not check the o rings in the compressor , it may need new ones, or may be you over charged the system

My yaris 2007 car ac stopped working before 2 months slowly , means sometimes work and some times doesnt work , and not at all . before 2 weeks i showed 2 car ac tachnicians both told to change control...

The best I can tell u is that the smell is from a leak at the evaporator or connections. I advise to get another opinion because it sounds like a lot of guesswork. if u get the work done, make sure the work comes with a warrantee! I gave all my customers warrantees for 20 years. That's part of the diagnostic business! Good Luck If u don't get a warrantee ,don't get the diagnosis or work done

2005 ford focus zx4 ac compresser making noise when ac is turned on

Yes, it could be the ac clutch or the compressor itself.

I have 1998 Ford Taurus and It has been blowing a 40 ams fuse from the cooling system. I have not been using the AC due to I have been changing must of the parts of the AC ( evapotator, heater core,etc)....

COMPRESSOR CLUTCH WILL NOT TAKE OUT THE FUSE BUT THE COOLING FAN WILL CHECK AND SEE IF IT TURN OK IF SO YOU CAN JUMPER IT AND SEE IF IT RUNS OK

Ac compressor clutch is making a noise is the clutch is replaceable without replacing compressor

I had the same issue with my 2006. I thought the compressor clutch bearings were faulty. After further research, the rattling noise was actually coming from the serpentine belt tensioner. Easy repair!
Hope this helps.

How hard is it to get ac clutch off compressor in a 1998 chevy prism?

the disc of the clutch might come off easy when it's unbolted. but the pully is pressure fitted to the compressor shaft. there a puller designed to remove it.

The compressor is bad. I have the same problem. Apparently none of the tahoe's compressors are worth a ****! im having to replace mine too. You have to change the compressor, the accumulator/dryer, orifice tube and flush the lines. If you look on ebay you can buy a complete kit to change it all for about 300 bucks. The dealership tells me that you need to change the fan clutch as well. They told me that the reason for the noises is the fan clutch isnt working properly and it lets the compressor get too hot causeing higher pressures in the compressor due to the heat. They called it liquid slugging I believe. Mine doesnt break the belt but when you give it very much gas it makes a squeal and then a grinding noise like your trying to put a standard transmission in gear with it running without pushing in the clutch. I asked if you could just change the fan clutch and they told me no its too late, you have to change the compressor and dryer/orifice tube.

Replacing AC clutch

You can usually change the AC clutch with the compressor still on the vehicle. It takes a specilized ac clutch removal tool to take the old clutch assembly off. By the time you buy a puller set you can have it changed cheaper at a shop. Unless you can rent a puller somewhere such as some auto parts houses rent tools. It really is not a job for a novice mechanic.
