If the check engine light is on, take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve any fault codes stored in the car's computer. Most parts stores will perform the scan for free. This will show what faults the computer has identified and what systems are being affected. That will eliminate speculation. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Having a very similar problem that I posted about on another entry. I hope I find and relatively economic solution. I can't recall what the diagnostic computer said the problem was but it had a list of about seven things.

Check engine light on. RPMs go up & down while in idle. If I turn it off & turn it back on it has a rough start but the RPMs no longer fluctuate. Air filter clean. Antifreeze and oil good.

Use a scanner to see what codes are setting the check engine light.
Go from there to find the reason. Could be a number of things causing it. Most likely emissions or vacuum related.

I have a 2003 nissan maxima v6... how do I check if my muffler is clog or converter the car starts and run for a couple of mins but I try to give it gas but my rpms dont go over 2000? It only picks up...

you only have to go to the nearest place to have the fault codes read. converters cab break up and block the exhaust but this is after high rpms and constant high speed driving and exhaust mufflers very seldom block up. The restricted rpms indicate that the engine /transmission is in protected mode and that will be revealed by the fault codes obtained from the reading.

2007 trailblazer, rpms fluctuate and pulse at maintained speed

Problem with electronic throttle control maybe. Any light's lit on the instrument cluster or messages engine power reduced . Could be a sign a position sensor is going bad . The gas pedal assembly has to sensors as does the throttle body . You could try cleaning the throttle body bore . Having a qualified repair shop hook up a diagnostic scan tool to view sensor data would be a good thing .

2007 Toyota Matrix no longer accelerates. When I push the gas pedal it moves slightly faster than idle, RPMs don't go up either. Any ideas?

This could be any number of things. The key is they check engine light being on. Scan the computer for trouble codes. This will make the problem a lot clearer once you know what codes are present.

It could be anything from a pedal position sensor to a throttle body. both of which are fairly expensive. It could also be as simple as a blown fuse (which could be to be a more difficult problem if it continues to blow).

You have three options for getting the code(s)
1. Buy a code reader for about $50 and pull them yourself.
2. call your local parts store to see if they provide this service.
3. Have a check engine light diagnosis performed at your local garage or dealer (there is usually a fee for this).

Once you know the code(s) post them here and I'll be happy to help you further.

Check engine light coming on off and on, seems to

The harmoic balancer is located on the end of the crankshaft. This shaft is the largest shft in the engine and should be the one where all belts eventually run thru/over it. Check it out, let me know.

I got a 1990 ford ranger 2.9 v6 its running very crappy

Fluctuating an high RPMs sounds like a leaking or missing vaccume hose to me, I had simmilar problem found open hole with hose off, replaced it now the RPMs are under 1000 again.
As for the stalling I also am having a simmilar problem, and am finding air in the fuel rail, I suspect the fuel pump is going.
I cant go more than a mile without problems.

Rpms fluctuate

You are running LEAN. Meaning it could be a number of possible problems. Most likely cause is a air pressure leak. Go to your local auto parts store and buy some carb cleaner. Run the car and spray into engine compartment. If you hear the engine RPMs go up then you've found your leak.
Do you have a check engine light ?
