Driver's side headlights don't work, although indicators do!

Ford Ka 2001, have checked the fuses and bulbs, but still the driver side headlights don't work. The indicators work on both sides, and the headlights work on the left hand side, so obviously an electrical fault, but not sure what to do about it or how much it might cost!

The most common fault is ground use a test light at the plug it should show you what is missing. Most garages should be able to hande it in about an hour.

After messing about changing my daughter's ka's bulbs to check cause of the headlight working, it turned out to be as simple as a loose connector. Plus it was the visible and easily accesible b right green one. Check this first. The bulbs can be checked with man sized hands but it's a frustrating long process. The wire clip holding headlight back cover comes out and drops out of reach. Put to it back in place by clipping the end at the wing then squeeze the radiator end of the clip into the seating bracket. Not the other way round as I kept trying for half an hour. I thought I would add my bit as the information gained from this site saved me a wasted trip to Halfords. As others have said though, if you know it's the bulb that's gone, definitely take it to Halfords, it's got to be worth the time and effort saved.

Hi, fuse 10 in the car runs the left bulb. If the fuse it good, it must be the wire or ground connection. There is no relay in the circuit.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a 2008 Ford Fusion and the passenger side head lamp will not come on. The fog lights and driver side head lamp works but the passenger side will not work on bright or on dim, what could this be?

Hi. Since the headlight on the driver side is working then we dont have any problem with the fuse or relay. Check the wiring and the socket of the passenger headlight if it is intact to the bulb. If it is intact, then this could be a headlight problem. Time to replace the passenger headlight.

Each light has its own fuse. Have you checked them? Maybe try switching two of them to see if they swap which one works... Once in a while a fuse that looks good has actually gone bad. Comment on this post if this doesn't help and we can move to the next step. Good luck!

chapmnfarm: your head lights use a "2" fuse system.
one for the left and one for the right.
The fuse box you are looking for is under the hood on the passenger's side. It is a black box roughly 8 inches long and 4-5 inches wide. When you remove the cover, you will see fuses and relays. What you are looking for is the section in the box which has a cluster of 7 fuses. 3 in one row and 4 in the other. On the outer parameter are two relays. The fuses you are interested in are located in the row of 4 fuses, with the two closest to the "L" shaped part of the box. Both of those should be 15 amp fuses.
The fuse below those should be a 20 amp which is the lighting switch and the one below it is a 15 amp which is for the interior lights and the clock.
Check your harness grounds in the engine compartment near the area you have the problem. There are ground wires which come out of the harness on both sides of the core support. The wires are black in color and have "EYES" crimped onto the ends of the wires. Both of them will probably be located about 4-6 inches below the upper tie bar on each side of the radiator. Odds are that the eyes will be large enough to pass a 6mm bolt through.
I hope what I have given you will resolve your problem. Lem me know,,good luck>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Fuse panel

Unfortunately this is not a fuse issue. It would be if both headlights were blown. The fuse controls both headlights not just the one. I would be inclined to think either a.) you may have gotten a bad bulb from the store. or b.) you have a broken wire somewhere or c.) a ground wire broken. I would try replacing the bulb again just to eleminate that being the problem (and if its not you got a spare bulb just in case then) and go from there. Good luck and thanks for using fixya!

Sincerely,

JC
