Question about 2007 Audi TT
The problem with your car is that the oil drains back down into the oil pan after sitting. I have this problem at my work where we change oil. After each oil change there is no oil in the motor, it is all in the pan so every single car knocks something fierce when we start it up after adding new oil because it takes awhile to get to where it needs to be.
In your case, probably a seal in the oil pump or the pump itself. Once or twice this is no problem, but if it does it every day you are severely wearing out your engine components without oil flow.

Knock may be from a main bearing...Only way to tell without tearing down the engine is to have an oil analysis done. Any material shed will turn up there. I used to deal with a company in New Jersey that did this, but cannot remember their name, but I'm sure you can find one. If you wait, and it is a bearing, likely by the time its consistent enough to diagnose either by noise or oil pressure drop, it will be too late for a repair.
The analysis is done by taking a sample of your oil and burning it, passing the light from the flame through a prizim. A computer reads the different color bands and records each corresponding to a program calibrated to various elements burn color. You receive a printout.
