Are cooling fan(s) working? Do you have 50/50 coolant/water? If there is a mechanical fan, is fan clutch good? Fan shroud in place? Front air dam intact? Drive belt good and tensioner working? Head gasket blown or leaking?
Check to make sure both of the electric fans are working. Your car has two cooling fans. As the engine begins to warm up one of the fans will come on. When the engine gets near or above normal temp the other fan will cut on. When you are driving, there is enough air moving through the radiator to keep the engine within normal range. When the car is stopped the fans are needed to draw enough air through the radiator. When the engine is hot and running, open the hood and look to see if both fans are turning. Keep your hands away. Just look don't touch. If neither fan is spinning, or if only one is spinning, you probably need to install a new fan assembly. But check for blown fuses or relays. Have someone check to make sure power is being sent to the fans when they should be spinning.
well sounds like you have either a thermostat or water pump problem it has a plastic impeller and they crack and dont pump enought water better get it fixed or posible head gasket or worst can occur
If water pump is old, like over 70,000 miles on it,replace it when you do the fan belt and tensioner. A new thermostat and a radiator flushing might also be in order. don-ohio (:^)
Beats itself?? I really dont know what that means. the cooling fan should come on when the a/c is on. when the engine is hot, the radiator should be hot. turn the a/c on and feel the air coming through, it should be HOT, if not, there is a coolant flow problem.
these are somethings that maybe causing it to over heat (1) not enough cooling in it.(2) water pump drivebelt (3) Radiator core blocked (4) Bad thermostat (5) fan blades broken or cracked (6)Radiator cap need to be replace (7) Ignition timing incorrect if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair Manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man
you ether have a coolant leak or one of these are the problem thermastat, fan clutch, water pump, radiator, try this start car when it reachs normal temp open hood and pinch the top radiator hose if it is hot water is flowing thermastat is good now open radiator with a towel slowly while it is runing see if the water is moving if it is you water pump and radiator are good, now at some point in this time you should have heard the fan get loud if not your fan clutch is not work it mounts to the front of your water pump and is normal to go out because they lose about 250rpm a year which does not give them much of a life, dont forget to check your heater hoses they could be leaking
