There are lots of reasons why it doesn't start, may i ask do you hear any clicking noise or engament noise from your starter motor, you said the battery works but have you check if your headlight is bright? Please check your immobilizer (antithief), if it is on mode it will not allow the CPU to active the starter , so i would say go to the cheapest way first
1) Check your battery again

2) Immobilzer

3) Stareter fuses and relays

4) Starter itself, (you can check the resistant across the terminals this can be done my a multimeter.

Hope this help...

I wnet out of gas on my VW Beetle 2001 last saturday. When I added gas to the tank, the car wouldn't start and the EPC light went on and I haven't been able to get it to start ever since. Would the EPC light have anything to do with the gas pump or anything related to running out of gas?

Does a 2001 VW Beetle Turbo need to have a charge at 12.6 volts to conduct a parasitic draw test? I am told by a repairman that he cannot find out what is going on until I get a new alternator, batter

this is not true, a parasitic draw can be found with the battery in any state of charge, yhe purpose of this test is to find out out what is drawing current, meaning amperage from the battery and at what rate. take this to a certified mechanic, should be easy to find with the right tools.if you need more help get back to me. please rate my fix as i stive to be the best Thanks Ray

CANT GET VW BEETLE STARTED

hi if its not been started for five years and it is trying to start but just won,t keep running get someone to tow you and jump start it because i suspect the compressions will be low due to a build up of damp carbon valves sticking all in all the seats on the head and valve will not be seating so if you persisist with the jump start it forces the valves onto the seats and will clear the debrie if it still won,t go check your compressions yates210456
