1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

When I started my 2002 Dodge Durango 4.7L and try to put it into 'DRIVE' it got locked up and I couldn't put it into ANY gear. I had someone tell me it may possibly be the gear linkage. HE

Well, if the problem is in the linkage between the trans and the shifter, you should be able to disconnect the linkage or cable and move the shift rod in the transmission by hand.
Make sure the parking brake is set since it won't be in park.

My back up lights don't work, what should i do?

check 15 amp fuse (may be in engine compartment relay box). If fuse is good, check switch on transmission. To check the switch, pull the connector off and short the two outer terminals together. With the key on, the backup light should come on. If they do, replace the switch. The switch looks something like this:

The neutral safety switch, otherwise known as the park/neutral position switch, prevents the vehicle from being started in any position other than PARK and NEUTRAL. It also functions as the back-up lamp switch.
The neutral safely switch is threaded into the transmission case. When the gearshift lever is placed in either the PARK or NEUTRAL position, a cam, which is attached to the transmission throttle lever inside the transmission, contacts the neutral safety switch and provides a ground to complete the starter solenoid circuit. The back-up light switch is incorporated into the neutral safety switch.
The center terminal is for the neutral safety switch and the two outer terminals are for the back-up lights.
There is no adjustment for the switch. If a malfunction occurs, the switch must be removed and replaced.

2000 Dodge Durango will not shift out of 2nd gear

It seems to be stuck in 4x4 still. There could be damaged done to the powertrain by the towing company. Therefore they should be held accountable for the damage and repair that will be needed. You never tow a vehicle in 4x4 it should be carried on a flat-back. Same with AWD vehicles. The towing companies are well aware of this, is their business to know. Make sure to disengage the 4x4, put the 4x4 shifter on the floor in neutral while in park or not moving. If you continue to have problems contact the towing company and hold them accountable for it. See what you can work out with them. If they tell you they are not responsible then contact a lawyer and make them responsible for it.

Try putting transmission in neutral, not park, then transfer case to 2 wd or 4 high, then transmission into gear.

05 Durango transfer case will not engage, stuck in neutral. How or what is causing the problem, how can I fix it?

I had this happen to me today and found that it was a simple linkage problem.

If the 4WD-Neutral-2WD stick on the floor console moves freely try crawling under the vehical and make sure that the shift linkage is attached to the transmission. On mine I found a cotter pin had broken and the shift lever was not staying connected.

Make sure the shifter on the steering colum is in neutral and engine off when making these repairs.

Good luck
