Is the rad fan cutting in? Is the rad clear of obstructions? ie: bugs, dirt. Is the coolant level where it should be? Is the level staying there or do you have to add?

In this car it is very common the head gasket, try the next, fill the radiator with the engine off, them start the car if you see coolant flying out of the radiator , so you need to replace the gasket, this happens because gasket is broken and pushing the compression in to the coolant system ..if that doen't happen also check if the fans are working when the car reach the normal temperature, if all this is OK, you may have a plugged radiator, or a bad water pump impeller..hope this help

Well there is a few things you can do first flush your radiator. second take the smallest drill bit that you have and drill two holes in to your thermostat we do this on race cars to keep the heat down also it that dosnt stop it loosen you radiator cap and that will stop the car from over heating

I have a 89 pontiac firebird Trans Am "GTA" 5.7L tuned port injected. My engine gets hot somehow and my car has a quick start but lower power afterward. What could the problem be?

Fix the radiator cooling problems. You will damage the engine if you keep running the car in an overheated condition.

1. Replace the thermostat in the cooling system
2. Replace the water pump
3. Flush the cooling system thoroughly and re-fill with the correct coolant. Bleed any air out of the system otherwise you will have problems with air blockages and thus poor coolant flow.

You probably do not know how to do any of this so take it to a reputable workshop or cooling specialist to have it done.

Overheating

check the thermostat it may not be opening, after youve run the motor for awhile feel the bottom and top of radiator they should both be hot,if the bottoms cold then the chances are its not opening,
change it, if they are both hot its a sign its opening, the coolant fan may not be cutting in, check it out, it should cut in after the motors been run up to temp, if it dosent cut in check out the sender it could be faulty at the worst you could have head gasket problems

The engine termostat is quickly become hot!!even driving very near distance!!!im worrying of overheating!!

Is the radiator full of coolant? if the radiator is full and you overheat quickly from a cold engine, the indication is a blown head gasket or cracked head. You can try checking the thermostat or even running without a tjermostat to be sure of the problem.

Frontier 2000 2.4L King Cab 100K miles. Temp guage indicates overheating. Will intermittently spike then drop to normal. Engine does not "smell" hot or run rough at any time. Grab upper hose, you can...

I've had problems with Datsun (later Nissan) engines hanging the closed thermostat until it boiled, then the thermostat released and operated normally. If you increase the small vent hole in the thermostat valve plate a small amount, the problem disappears. It seems that steam from engine operation gathers behind the thermostat sensing bulb and delays opening. The increase in vent hole size lets the steam through and allows the hot water to open the valve. Hope this helps!

Espace overheating

Hi,
Since you said runs hot too quickly, I suspect the thermostat is the culprit. It's inexpensive and easy enough to replace. Overheating is terrible for an engine.
I hope this helps... Good luck!
