The I6 4.2 from 2002-2009 has throttle body issues, must be cleaned. Fuel smell is unfortunately common, but can be several things. First thing I'd check though is the fuel regulator located on the passengers side just below the Vortec plastic box in the middle. This is the most common one for a fuel smell. Other problem locations are at the gas filler neck or fuel tank.

SOURCE: hard to start and smell gas

have 1994 4.3 cpi and the problem I had sounds same.
It was a leaky pressure line in pletium . easy fix $45.00 part $15.00 gasket.
the leak was caused from the fuel lines rubbing together in pletium.
take the vortec cover off ,then remove air regulator in middle and look inside . I turned on power to key and gas spray came from drivers side of pletium looking in hole.fuel line side. if gas spray on passanger side then gas regulator faulty. takes 5 min to check
After fixing truck runs runs great. no more gas smell in cab.
also you can smell oil for gas

SOURCE: won't start. Runs terrible. changed plugs, wires, fuel pump, coil. plugs smelled of gas and were blackened.

Not terribly familliar with honda cars but most systems use either a cold start injector or just richen up mixture through the normal fuel system. This is controlled by a temperature sensor, either separate from or part of dash gauge sensor. I'd begin looking for that. If its always in "cold start" if will give you symptoms like yours. If not fuel injected, check choke operation. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to begin looking!

SOURCE: 93 Buick PA ran out of gas, batt died. Change battery and put gas,new fuel filter,New coils and base spark wires, cam and crank censor, fuel pump /sending unit still no start

Check for a good spark at the plugs ,if ok check fuel pressure and fuel flow. fuel pressure should be around 300 kpa, Flow around 500 ml, in 30 seconds.

Testimonial: "it didn't have any of that but Mech. said he got it but still didn't start"

Car is stalling at idle, loss of power, and gas smell in vents when started

Throttle position sensor or mass air sensor, more than likely TPS sensor going bad and hasn't thrown code yet.

2010 dodge avenger 2.4L motor seemed like I ran out of gas and stalled wouldn't start so I poured gas til it was full then everytime I try to start it it smells like gas n has a hard time starting

Camshaft position sensor. It needs to know which cylinder is needing fuel, so it can fire the injectors at the correct time. It must have failed you. It should not be too difficult to replace or very expensive.

Alternator is putting out 14 volts but auto stalls and needes to be jump started.

Have you checked your battery - it should be no lower than 11.8volts when the car isn't running - if so you need to replace it. Sometimes, a batter will seem fine when not loaded - also check for a dramatic loss of power when attempting to start - if this is the case, your battery may still need replacing.
Other than this, do you have power at the batter from the alternator - check the voltage when the car is running to ensure you don't have faulty wiring from the alternator. If you don't get 14volts (or so) at the battery, you must likely have a wiring issue.
Hope this helps, Sherwin

My 2004 Trailblazer fan won't run on setting one

Fan problem is the blower resistor module. Very easy to fix ,located right next to the fan under the dash behind the glove box.It has screws that hold it inside the air duct. just remove, unplug from blower motor and replace. A new one costs about 25$.
