It sounds very much like your clutch is slipping. If the engine revs continue to rise when in gear and the car does not increase it's speed accordingly then if it is a manual car then you need a new clutch.

That is tell-tale signs of your clutch going out..almost gone. Be sure to replace your clutch plate, pressure plate, have the flywheel turned by a machine shop and replace the throw-out bearing and the master/slave cylinder or it will need to be fixed again way too soon. Only other thing I can think of is if it has a cable controlled clutch (not likely) these type need to be adjusted from time to time as the cable stretches.

YOU COULD HAVE CLOGGED FUEL FILTER AND FUEL INJECTORS.ALSO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID.IF LOW TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP GOING UP HILL.NOT ENOUGH FLUID TO BUILD UP PRESSURE FOR OVER DRIVE.
