What would make my transmission stop shifting

Low line pressure, low fluid, shift solenoid problem, pressure control solenoid, BAD TCM FUSE OR SHIFT SOLENOID FUSE . . . etc....etc...
Check the fuses first then have the car scanned for transmission and engine codes . . . this is were you start. Knowing the codes you'll have some direction as to what the problem is. Also Check the fluid for a burnt smell and dark brown color (this means you have internal component damage). Be aware that some discoloration is normal but a burnt smell is not. Hope this helps.

1999 buick century won't accelerate over 30 mph

is the check engine light on ! if so have it scanned to find problem code. auto-zone will scan for free, with a OBD-II scanner, as long as light is still on. if vehicle was running good before this happed it could be a few things wrong. tuneup, airfilter, throttle body dirty, fuelpump ( low fuel pressure ) or a clogged uo fuel filter. hope this helps! even a dirty maf sensor will cause, poor acceleration.

Transmission shift light does not illuminate

Common problem. The indicators burn out. This will need to be replaced with a new unit from gm or send it out to a repair man specializing in electronic repair. You can find some selling their services on ebay.

I need the location of a neutral safety switch on a 1999 buick century 3.1L.

I take it that you have an automatic transmission the shift selector /neutral saftey switch switch is located on top of the transmission were the shift cable connects to the trans. Remove the 13 mm nut in the center of the switch and remover the shift cable and lever noting the location of the lever. then remove the bolts holsing the switch to the transmission and the elec connector.
