If it is a thin small bent piece of metal . all it does is make a chirping or screech why it is time to change your pads. you dont really need it ,as long as you check your brake pads and rotors, so they dont cut into each other.it just warns you that the pads are due to be changed

It should point away from caliper.. I take it we are talking about brakes hear. This is called a dust shield. It will not hurt anything being left off as it does what its title says.

Have a 1994 dodge caravan, I need to know on the front brakes where or how the brake pad separator goes.

A brake pad separator is a tool that you use to seat the caliper piston, I use a c clamp for that, on the front.
If the part is a thin metal piece, put it on the backside of brake pad. I can't see anything from here.

How do I release frozen front brake caliber on 79 dodge colt ?

Open the bleeder on the caliper, then using a large C clamp, clamp it onto the back of the caliper and the middle of the front pad. Tighten it to force the caliper piston back into the housing. If its really stuck you may need to use a bar on the C lamp handle to give you more leverage to get it moving. If the guides are really rusted try soaking with WD40 to free them up before applying pressure..

Squealing at the right front wheel

The brake lining's have worn away, the squealing was metal to metal (worn pad against metal disc) The worn pad will have damaged the brake disc. Very dangerous. You will now have to have new brake pads and discs fitted to BOTH front wheels to put it right. Good luck

Front caliper will not come out on my 2010 dodge caliber

Only the rust lip on the rotor holding it on

Sand down some of the outer edge or just
pull the caliper toward you, to compress the piston

Those rotors will need machining

Try the Raybestos Ceramic Pads

Front brake caliper on brivers side omn a 99 caravan keep locking up and smoking. i went through 3 calipers

Chances are the calipers are not at fault. You probably live in a northern state that puts salt on the roads in the winter time. Take a close look at the brake shoes. and where they mount. Often the manufacturer will put a thin metal plate over a caste iron iron caliper/brake pad mount. This is to give the brake pads a smooth surface to slide on. Take the the thin metal plates off of the bracket and file off the rust under neath the plates. The rust is expanding and pushing against the back of the thin plates causing the brake pads to bind and stick. This is then overheating the caliper and ruining it. Take a file and remove all the rust on the mounting brackets especially under the the brake pad slide plates. Once the brake pads move freely again the problem should go away.

How do you remove the front disc brakes?

To remove the front disc brakes , you must remove the break caliber assembly . Keep in mind that on some brake calipers a special Torx Drive T40 or T45 must be used to remove the caliber bolts from the spindle assembly . Also , Allen (Hex) bolts are sometimes used . Be sure you have the right tools .
1. Properly block both rear wheels at the front in the back of each wheel.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on both front wheels one turn on each nut.
3.Jack up and support the front of the car on Jack stands with the wheels one to 2in. off the ground.
4. Remove the two bolts on the inside of the caliber the secure it to the spindle .
5.Once the bolts have been removed the caliber should pull straight away from the rotor and spindle assembly .
6.Remove your old brake pads , clean the assembly , properly lubricate the moving parts as necessary , especially the floating sleeve as the assembly is called a floating caliber which means half of the Caliper is bolted to the spindle (inner) but the other half floats (outer).
7.Use a large see clamp centered between the caliper piston and caliper housing to push the piston all the way back into the caliber cylinder by turing (1 turn at a time) the screw until the piston is flush with the caliber face .
8. Install your new brake pads .
9. use the reverse procedure to assemble everything back together. Good luck and be safe....

How to change rear break pads on 2002 saturn l200

remove the two caliber bolts that hold it to the bracket, use a screw driver to put inside inspection hole and pull towards outside of car,now you can pull it off,pop the pads out ,put the new ones in,take a large pair of water pump pliers and compress the caliber piston back in the caliber the whole way,put caliber back on reinstall bolts and then do the other side, before starting car pump brake pedal back up this will push the piston back out against pads then you will have a full pedal again,
