Question about 1997 GMC Jimmy

Jimmy wont pick up speed or shift

I have a 1997 jimmy and i changed of the rotor button and tansmission starainer and it still hazitates i don't know what else to do ???????????/

    MAKE SURE YOUR FLUID LEVEL IS CORRECT.MAKE SURE YOUR ENGINE IS WELL TUNED UP.BECAUSE IF ENGINE NOT RUNNING GOOD THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT RIGHT.IF ALL IS GOOD.MAKE SURE VACUUM MODULATOR ON THE TRANSMISSION IS RECEIVING VACUUM.IF NOT LOOK FOR A BROKEN HOSE .IF HOSE IS GETTING VACUUM.DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE FROM VACUUM MODULATOR.GET A HAND HELD VACUUM PUMP.HOOK IT TO MODULATOR.PUMP IT UP TO 20 HGS.HOLD IT THERE.IF VACUUM DROPS REPLACE VACUUM MODULATOR.YOUR SHIFT CABLE COULD BE WORN OR NOT ADJUSTMENT.YOUR GOVERNOR WILL CAUSE NO SHIFT PROBLEM IF DAMAGE OR WORN.ALSO SHIFT VALVES IN VALVE BODY STICKING.CAUSING NO SHIFT PROBLEMS.

First off there may be nothing wrong. At highway speed, the trans will shift down to 1st, but you won't feel it. If should feel like neutral. Does it shift normally when your "wide open throttle" from standstill? If it shifts properly in this situation, then your fine, don't worry. How about wide open throttle at say 25mph? how about 35 and 45? anything over that and its gonna feel like neutral. IF your convinced that your passing gear is not working right, it could mean that its out of adjustment, and needs a little more push, more throw, or kinda like adjusting the rod out a little bit further. Adjust your "passing gear linkage" or kickdown as you imply. Second guess would be low on transmisison fluid, filter, and last, the transmissoin control selonoid. Again I suggest its doing just fine, if it shifts down at any speed.

My 97 Jimmy is shifted into 4hi and will not switch to 2hi, the lights flash and i hear a clicking but it wont shift


when deactivating youre four wheel drive make sure youre rig is in nautral this helps with the gears lining up. whan youre 2-hi light flashes hit a second time. Ive had this problem befor.

After getting a tune up on my 97 Jimmy SLE its studders and shakes like it wanna cut of but don't. Has very little power. This started right after the tune up was done. I had the Spark plugs, wires,...


The mechanic that did the tuneup might have got cap/rotor position screwed up. If what you listed is all they replaced thats the most likely thing. Or they mixed up the position of a couple of spark plug wires. Those are the 2 things to check.

not sure if this is the answer yet but i have the same problem with the same codes i work at an auto parts store and a few of the techs that are customers have lead me in the direction of changing the ignition switch, i am doing it today will let you know if it solves the problem

1996 gmc jimmy wont shift into park stops at neutral its a manual tansmission


a manual transmission don't have park i am assuming you have a automatic trans in vehicle and maybe the park interlock is not working properly check fuses 1st

Volvo 240 GL Transmission


You have an overdrive relay issue. The tansmission is really a four-speed box, but the OD selector either locks our fourth gear or allows the car to shift normally into fourth. I use the OD on my volvo all the time, because the revs drop in half when the OD is activated, The relay is located behind the glove box, toward the center console. $10 buck on Ebay and your transmission should shift correctly again. I would try that BEFORE more expensive fixes, like OD solenoid $200 or transmission control module. Just for kicks a picked up a spare ECU on Ebay for $10 because these get costly if and when they go. Easy fix, though, a couple of plugs.
